Absolutely. It get's even more interesting. Back in 1948 the Republicans were AGAINST farm subsidies like they had been for 75 years. The reason Truman won election is that the Republicans tried to kill the subsidies by selling off the only silo's where the government subsidized grain could be stored.
Low and behold, just as farmers were going to store their crop in 1948 they found out there were no silo's to store it in. At the last minute there was a Democratic surge in support.
However, by the end of the 1950's the big corporations had managed to squeeze out many of the small independently owned farms. And then, of course, the Republicans were suddenly in FAVOR of farm subsidies.
Oh, it gets more interesting. When the Democrats took power under Clinton they started phasing out crop subsidies. In fact, they were almost entirely gone by the time Clinton left office. Guess what? When the Republicans took power under Bush the reinstated the crop subsidies. THEN they manadated ethanol be made ONLY from corn. And increased the corn subsidies.
Wow. Amazing how little people know about the Republicans.
OP PWNED
And now there are only a handful of corporations that control most of the food supply of this country. Gee, I wonder what the Founding Fathers would have thought of that.
