Yet another reason I avoid eBay

ebay is only a halfway decent place for sellers now, if you ask me, and seeing as how 4-5 of my last 10 sales on ebay have either gone sour or been a PITA, I'm almost done with them.

As do I, but I need that modem and have only had one hit so far on AT. He still has not provided me a price.

 
Hmmmm...that pic isn't even of the right modem. At least that's not what it looks like on Linksys' site.

*Edit - That's a decent price for it too, I think he jacked up the shipping because he knew he wouldn't get what it's worth for it.

I think thats version 2... the first one you couldn't stack with their routers and access points.
 
That's crazy. I just paid $15 to have skiis sent to me from an ebay seller, and they want to ship a modem for that? I guess they don't want ebay to take their profits.

If you don't know why people charge more for shipping, you haven't sold much on Ebay. Sometimes you can't help it. Other sellers set the item price and shipping so a bidder will only be willing to pay so much for an item.

If the going rate of that cable modem is $51 and everyone else is charging $15 for shipping, when it actually costs $10 to ship, you're losing $5. If you wanted $56 for the modem and $10 shipping when everyone else is getting $50 and $15 for shipping, your item will not sell. Most STUPID buyers just look at the auction price and not the shipping. My point is that it's not only the sellers fault, but it's the buyers fault as well.

Also.. People post fixed shipping and handling charges out of convenience. With zone shipping, it may cost $7 to ship it locally, but it may cost $12 or more to ship it to California from the East Coast. You don't know who you are selling to and where they are from until they win your item. You could charge actual shipping to be figured out after the auction, but that takes extra time. Most people want to win the item then click on the PayPal link, pay for the item and have it shipped ASAP! It might eat up another day and several emails to find out actual shipping charges. Then again, who knows that this person would even be looking at your auction because you'd be charging $5 more for your item because you are charging actual shipping charges.

If you don't like someone's shipping charge, don't bid.

IMO, eBay's only demise will be from all the fradulent stuff that goes on (not necessarily this auction). With all the eBay and PayPal email scams going around, people are going to start to get scared off. There doesn't seem to be much competition in terms of internet auctions. I don't see another internet auction site overtaking eBay, ever.

I really wish they'd become more proactive in trying to thwart scams and fradulent users. I dunno, maybe it's just growing pains.
 
TONS of liars and fraud and whatnot on Ebay...u have to do research before jumping.
the tons of noobs sometimes make it worse.
 
I've been waiting for two weeks for a seller to email me how much the shipping is.

I've sent him three emails(he responded to the first one) asking for a total including shipping and a Paypal email addy(he had Paypal as a payment option).

It doesn't sound like I'm going to get my Craftsman Router Table for $17+shipping.

True. My CF reader was going for $8 + $5 shipping. I offered free shipping on mine and got only $6.75
