Yet another rate my PC build thread

I've been looking at building a new PC for a while now.

The motherboard I am leaning towards now is the LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR. I've heard its picky on ram, so I thought I would post my current draft of the PC I plan to order and get some opinions on if this would be a good build for this motherboard. At this time I do not plan to use SLI, but I do plan to do so in a few months time. I also do not plan to overclock.

So here's the list, if you think anything is a waste, or if you think there is a better choice for the same price (I do almost all my shopping at newegg, zipzoom, or monarch, please let me know.

LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR Motherboard (of course)
1gig (2x512) CORSAIR XMS TWINX1024-3200XLPT (2-2-2-5)
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (Newcastle)
BFG 6800GT (256meg)
Seagate 7200.8 300GB 7200RPM SATA
A case yet to be picked. Something plain with good air flow thats quiet.
OCZ PowerStream 600W Power Supply (Not sure if this is overkill, but I plan to use SLI, and I'm not sure how much power I need).

My only other concern before I order is that I would really like to have 2 gigs of ram. But I've heard that you can't use 4x512 because it will really hurt performance, and I also noticed the timings on 1 gig sticks to be really slow compared to the 512's. Do you think it will be worth waiting for the Vience core to come out in hopes that it might fix the 333 2T problem with using 4 sticks of 512? Or would it be a big hit to performance if I just used 2x1gig?

Anyways, thanks in advance, I look forward to your opinions.

Thanks

Yes, i would wait and get a venice. The memory controller is supposedly much better in all respects, as well as the problem you listed above.

actually, i'd do both options...wait for venice and use 2x1GB sticks. i don't know any advantage to running 4x512 or any disadvantage to using 2x1GB.

heres what i'd use: patriot

Thanks for the input. The timings on that ram actually look better then most 1 gig stick's I've seen. Thats what has really put me off from going 2x1gig instead of 4x512. I'm not in a big rush to build a new PC, my friend is currently buying mine, but he's got about 4 more weeks of payments (more then enough time for the new AMD chips to come out). I just want to get the build down so I can start buying as I see sales.

The only problem with using 4X512MB is that you'll have to run them at 2T which reduces their effectiveness in speed. 🙁
Also, 1GB sticks still run slower than 512MB sticks.

ditch the LL premium ram and go 4 sticks of this for your setup(if you must have 2 gigs, 2 sticks will be enough for most people). costs less and will be faster

G.skill Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC3200, Model F1-3200PHU2-1GBZX
Cas latency 2 so it's very good. G.Skill is a quality brand among oc'ers. foing from that UBER expensive ram to this, if yuo decide only to buy 1 gig will lose you literally maybe 1-2% decrease in performance. 2Gig, this will be faster and cheaper than 1 gig that.

also, venice chips odnt punish you fro filling all 4 ram slots with 2t timings so there is no performance difference when using 4 sticks.
