Yet another puppy dilemma - sort of

The GF and I decided no to get Hudson any soft cuddly toys because he would learn that stuffed animals are okay to chew on - which would include those belonging to the small children of our friends and relatives. My parents came to visit today and brought him a present. A nice soft cuddly squeaky bunny rabbit.

It turns out that this toy is the greatest thing since sliced bread. He hasn't had this much fun with anything else we have given him. Watching him shake this thing around is absolutely friggin hilarious.

I guess I am going to have to live with the guilt when he eats some two year old girl's favorite toy, because this toy is here to stay!

Just teach your friends/relatives not to let their stuffies near the pooch. 🙂

Or buy a sacrificial one (I suggest a Furby) and let the pooch amuse himself with that while they play. 😉

I recommend a teletubby, you can pick one up at toysrus very cheaply. My dog loves teletubbies, I get him a new one every year. He even recognizes "teletubby", I yell it and he grabs the teletubby 🙂 Make sure you don't get one that has electronics inside of it...
 
Naw, don't worry about it... dogs are actually pretty smart. He'll soon figure out which are his toys and which aren't.
 
My dog rips up soft toys and eats the stuffing out of them. In the unlikely event that I got my foot caught in a bear trap or something, Maggie could chew my foot off for me, thereby saving my life.
 
Heres a little tip. Those stuffed dog toys are around $5+ and can get kinda pricy when they just tear them up in a couple days. Good Will sells stuffed animals for $0.25-$1. Every now and again I'll stop in at Good Will and pick up 10 or so and just stash them so he always has a supply. They don't squeak but he still likes to play with them/ rip them apart 🙂. I will also buy him the squeaky kind when I see them on sale but sofar they only kind that last are basically shape like a ball. He can't seem to tear those up very quikly.
 
Good looking puppy. Is he a full bred German Shepherd? My dog's ears fell over for a few months while she was a puppy.

My Shepherd also loved all those stuffed animals... she would be nice to them in front of us. But when we went away she would "kill" them... essentially tearing all the stuffing out:Q

Be careful w/the woobies. Some pups like to chew them up to get out the stuffing. Also, they have the same texture as a couch (which my dog chewed up when he was a puppy) It takes patience before they learn what is OK and not OK to chew.

Your pup still has his puppy teeth. In a couple of months his adult teeth will start to come in and he will want to chew like mad. The best toys are hard-rubber "kongs" and nylabones. Which let them chew and not damage anything.

Another thing you can do is buy a kong, fill it w/fat-free vanilla yogurt, and freeze it for about an hour. You can also put some sliced banana in there. Its a healthy treat which will keep your pet occupied for a while, and the frozen yogurt helps with the teething.

He is not a pure bred Shepherd - more of a Shepsky. If you are looking at the pictures I posted on Fox302.com (see links above) the first picture in the "dogs" category is his mom. Noone knows what his dad was. As perfect as his coloring is, his littermates were are grey and brown...

Still, everyone thinks he is either a shepherd or a Rotty.
