That's it. Your Man-Pass(tm) is hereby suspended for one week. You are ordered to spend that time in your home watching sports and/or pornography, drinking beer, and building and/or destroying things with power tools.

Ah the man pass! I haven't seen a revocation of the man-pass on these boards for almost a year, had quite a streak, although sometimes it should have been revoked.

/edit it's man card IIRC

Hey, sometimes you gotta lay down the smack. Think of it as "tough love". 😛

I agree. Gulf oysters aren't my style. Never had a pacific one tho.

If you ever do try a Pacific oyster, just try one. You might not like them. I certainly didn't. The taste is completely different from Northeast oysters.

I have tried Oysters only a few times in my life, and i have never been very impressed. I have heard so many people talk about these little things like they are the best thing on earth....

That's because you don't live on the gulf coast. That's like saying "I don't like shrimp, I had some at Long John Silvers in Minnesota and they were bad". Don't get them anywhere except costal areas.
What are the best ways to eat Oysters ?

For all of the 90% of my life that I lived in Mississippi and Louisiana, I've never had them raw. I hear they are good, but my parents wouldn't let me eat them raw. Try them steamed or fried on a po-boy. If you don't know what a po-boy is, you have no business eating oysters. 😛

What wines go good with Oysters ?

I'll pretend you didn't ask that.

Is this a good time of year for Oysters ?

You're stretching it. Gulf oysters get fatty in spring and summer (fatty in a bad way). They're still good, but not as good as if you got them in say, November.

Bah, you do'nt need to live by a coast to get good oysters. They'll live for several days well cooled easily.

And yes, i love oysters, both raw and fried. But prefer raw. I've been a hermit lately, so what i like is to have half a dozen cold beer on the side, large bowl of oysters and something to shuck it with, and a movie, and i'm good for the night.

What other foods go good with Oysters ?
Cocktail Sauce, Crackers, Horse Radish, Hot Sauce 🙂

Oysters are not for women 😉

You should only eat oysters in months that have an R in them.

Yeah, you missed fried! 🙂

I love fried oysters...and steamed oysters...and raw oysters. Tasty! If you've never had good, fresh oysters (and not the size of a quarter), try them.

Fall/Winter months are the best for Gulf Oysters.

nb: I would only eat oysters in a gulf state, fresh shucked.

Gulf state? You're forgetting about the Bay, my friend...and I wasn't too impressed with the ones I had down in New Orleans.
🙂

Edit: We've been eating them down here for 400 years.

WEll I willl add one more aspect.

I ate at 42nd street in Raleigh of 1995 in March. I used to be skinny and eat a sh!tload, now i'm not skinny and I still eat a lot. Nonetheless, I ate a peck of raw oysters by myself and got food poisoning.

That = don't eat oysters away from teh coast.

BTW. I never liked Fried Oysters. Reminded me too much of chitlins.

And you can have all the bull nutz you want, mountain oyster boy 😉

mmm, last year during spring break me and the boys h it up this oyster bar across the street from our hotel every day for happy hour, $1.99 for a dozen oysters and 2 for $2 margarittas. We all went through about 3-4 dozen oysters each per day (6 of us in the group), and got sloshed while we were at it, good times and great eats, mmm, i want oysters now

42nd street has gone down fast (faster than a $2 ho). It's running on the old reputation to keep people in.

If you want a great raw or steamed go to Tony's.
