Most of the newer laptops have eliminated serial and parallel ports...

I have been searching and searching for a laptop, sub $800 that has these ports built-in.

I have tried port replicators, usb emulated ports, etc etc w/o any luck getting some stuff that i have to work.

Any ideas? (oh yeah preferably Intel, Windows XP capable)

.

I'm not sure, but I believe Lenovo still uses the legacy ports on their laptops.

lolz....

yeah i cannot use usb emulated ports, some of the programs i use refuse to work with emulated ports... i really haven't tried the non-usb port replicators (ie the oem port replicators for the specific laptops)

seriously, if it weren't for these stupid legacy dongles that i have i really don't care to have the ports on my normal use lappys

thanks for the responses tho,

JR

You can do a bay insert in a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 and R60 that have those ports and in the bay they are native. They are also native using the ThinkPad dock or replicator.

QFT. You can go with an older ThinkPad that has them built-in, but for a newer laptop you replace the optical drive with these ports. Dock has them built-in, and the full Advanced Dock has a separate UltraBay for optical/HDD/ports. Lots of options, if you've got the cash.

Hey Tim.... Not sure the bay insert works in the dock.

HP/Compaq Evo N610C/N620Cs are going fairly cheap (comparatively) on eBay at the moment, a bunch of companies upgraded from them. I picked up an A+ 2.0GHz P4M for $320 and a A++ 1.8GHz for $295.

14" screen, 1024x768, S478 P4M (the better one that does three speedstep settings instead of two), mag alloy casing like IBM/Lenovo laptops, multibay can accomidate CD/DVD/DVD+-RW/extra battery, and both main and multibay batteries are super cheap ATM ($40 for main, $25-30 for multibay).

Radeon Mobility 7500 video, a full complement of ports, and a real docking station port that will give you a better selection of ports than you get on most desktop computers. These laptops were designed for corporate environments and it shows.

Just a thought, but it's worth looking into. The 610 series is P4 and the 620 series is Pentium M.

Good point, sorry, ports aren't necessary on the full Advanced Dock anyway.
