Last year, my pc died and in a scramble due to limited funds...I used the transition board from ASRock. I am to the point where the final two "pieces" to my computer are set to be upgraded.....motherboard and video card.

A quick run down on "components" in my pc to give you an idea of what I am working with

Coolermaster Ammo case
Q6600 cpu w/ hyperTX2 heatsink
2 gigs of supertalent DDR2 800 ram
WD 640 GB Sata drive
LG 22" WS LCD Monitor (1680x1050)
PC Power and Cooling S61EPS power supply

First piece to the puzzle is the motherboard and I have helped some friends/family members in the past put together pc's built on the Gigabyte boards. (recently, our IT manager built 2 with this brand board)

The two that I have been toying with were these two.....

or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128359

I guess after recently reading about crossfire boards only being able to use ATI and the chance that I actually would use crossfire or sli being slim, right now I would lean towards the board with a single pci-e x16 (unless I am convinced otherwise)

I am not one to upgrade components every year....I tend to build more "long term" One of the reasons for this upgrade is, even though this is an every day household pc for my wife and I, I also do enjoy going online to game (mostly BF 1942, BFV, BF2 as that is all my video card would support) Going forward, I want to add COD5 (and maybe 4) to the mix also. (Along with possibly Starcraft2 when it is finally released)

Anyway, my question is with video cards. Currently my co-worker built on the dual pci-e board with a GTX 260 (which after the fact, I thought is a mute point as you can't sli with this board) He hasn't had any issues with it and is quite happy.

Looking at newegg, I picked out a couple of choices and I have no real tie to either brand....Price vs performance is key for me....most bang for my buck!

First card http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814133246
Comes with free COD5
There is also a XFX 9800 GTX+ card for around 175 (after rebate) that comes with both COD4 and COD5
Otherwise, am I better off stepping up to one of the GTX260's (192 processing core) for around 180 to 200 and then tack on the 50 dollars extra for the game.

Lastly, am I better off looking at a 4850 or 4870?

I have looked at the video card charts and the more I look....the more difficult this decision seems to get. The funds aren't "unlimited" but if the step up in price from a 9800GTX+ to a 260 (or to a 4850 or 4870) outweighs the price increase, then that is the way I would go. I just don't want to buy outdated dead technology. I'd much rather buy a card that can last a few years.

Timetable for this purchase....sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks in advance for all the advice!

Steve
