From time time time - several times a day - my cursor just decides on its own to move to the upper left corner of the browser window. No idea why. Win 7 current IE.

Three suggestions to try:

1. Uninstall any specific mouse software (i.e., Microsoft Intellipoint, etc.), reboot and test. If the cursor now behaves normally; reinstall mouse software/drivers and test to see if the problem returns.

2. If it's a USB mouse; power off and connect a PS/2 mouse, disconnect all peripheral USB devices, boot up, then use the PS/2 mouse to uninstall all USB devices under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" in Device Manager. Reboot and Windows will reinstall all USB devices. Reconnect USB devices and test if the mouse cursor behaves normally.

3. Malware is also known to cause this type of mouse cursor behavior. Scan with Malwarebytes and if the problem still persists try runnning ComboFix.

Well, I don't think I have any mouse sw, the mouse and sw haven't changed in years...

Malware seems like a likely suspect byt malwarebytes says it's clean.

Is the cursor at the upper-left corner of the application window, or of the desktop screen? If it's the screen, then the mouse sensor may be going, or the cable may be fraying.

I've had that happen to me with a failing mouse.

Of the screen, though with a maximized window it's the same thing. Maybe that's it, it's an old mouse.

What version of IE is it? IE10 came out end of Feb, did it have something to do with it?

Is it actually IE, I've seen this behavior with dust in the sensor or bad surfaces under the mouse. It's almost certainly the mouse, not the browser.

This is IE 9, I didn't know 10 had come out. I don't know how to confirm it's the mouse, but that makes sense.
