Yet another help build my pc thread....

Okay. I'm building a new computer and need help choosing components. I want a somewhat decent gaming computer. My price limit is $600, maybe a bit more. Here's what I figured out so far:

ATI Radeon 9600 XT $150
512MB Mushkin PC-3200 $70
80GB Western Digital HD $60
Windows XP Home $90
Chaintech "VNF3-250" $72
A64 2800+ $127
CDRW Generic $50
Floppy $10
Case Antec $70
Cables $???

I, obviously have no idea for what case i should get (ATX) and what Motherboard....Can anyone recommend? Sacrafice the 'expensive' processor for a lesser one if you need to shift funds. I already have the monitor, mouse, and speakers.

Thanks.

Edited

I guess i could spend up to $700

Read the System thread (thread #1) and/or click the "Guides" tab at the top of the page.

Instead of paying $125 for an XP 3200+, pay $127 for an A64 2800+ it's much faster.

You need to spend about an extra $100 though for a good system without a monitor.

Should I change the video card? And if so to what?

If you don't mind buying used, I would suggest 9800 pro on the FS/FT forum. I picked up 9700 pro Hercules for 110 shipped and I've seen the 9800 pro for 150 to 160.

Also hopefully, the 6600GT agp might come down cheaper also, so it might be worth to spend the extra few bucks.
