I think whenever personal information (home address, etc) is posted, it goes beyond something to just ignore as trolling.

Seriously. Women on the internet think they're being discriminated against for being women. The reality is that they're being treated like everyone else, but they're just used to everyone being super nice to them in real life because they're women.

Yes, everyone else gets detailed, explicit threats of sexual violence and murder posted alongside their home address every day. I personally have to deal with at least 5 before breakfast

Can these threads go to P&N or off topic ? This crap is getting old and has nothing to do with PC gaming. A bunch of meaningless vapid drama. Can we just have our games without these asinine dramatics ?

These threads absolutely belong in P&N.

Are you kidding me? I play Payday 2. Threats of sexual violence are on the lighter side of things.

Clearly, you've never been on the internet. People will, for even the slightest of slights, threaten incredible things they have neither the intent or capability to follow through on.

The problem is these people are highlighting these idiot internet trolls, and then they end up receiving more threats, which they also show to everyone. That's exactly what these anonymous trolls want. They just want attention, and these people give them exactly that. You are never going to win against them, they aren't there to listen to your message or even provide counter arguments, they just want to hate you. Best bet is to just ignore them and actually focus on real people that might actually care about your cause.

This Wu lady is a freaking moron. No sympathy here.

You don't make a meme mocking a group of people, and then get surprised when they target you for harassment.

Exactly. Reposting all the threats you receive to everyone does nothing to stymie the flow of threats--if anything it increases them. This is what makes me believe these people are more interested in amping up outrage to support their causes than actually watching out for themselves. There's no shortage of actual **HICKORY**-sticks out there that will play into their hands. It's the same kind of kids who SWAT streamers because they got PKed or whatever.

I'm curious how many anonymous internet threats have actually ever amounted to any actual harm done (other than "emotional distress").

People on Twitter are assholes. You learn to deal with them, or block them. Besides, it sounds like it's mainly being driven by 4chan. Those idiots couldn't hack their way out of a paper bag, let along physically hurt anybody. They're the internet equivalent of the crazy homeless guy shouting the N-Bomb at random passers by. You just ignore them.

bahahaha.... I don't think I have ever seen a more precise or better description.

I ask the mods to move these threads to more appropriate sub forums, this doesn't belong in PC gaming.

Brianna Wu is a professional victim. I have no sympathy.

She made a bad game and someone decided to harass her and now she's making negative blanket statements about all gamers. She's a drama queen that's full of manure.

Remember the dude from Eve who had major groups of players trying to get him to commit suicide?

Nebor is right.

"You know what my great grandfather said? He said 'I don't understand why women want equality. They're already on a pedestal. Why would they want to step down?'"

Besides, before she got any of this harassment, Wu was making all sorts of hate-filled comments about men during Gamer Gate. These are the kinds of stupid whiny hypocritical misandrist women who claim that men aren't playing their stereotypical roles, SCREEEEEAM about equality, but then when they DO get treated equally by being told to go F-themselves like we men tell each other, their widdle feewings get hurt and they scream about how they're being treated poorly.

Welcome to the real world, Wu, you beyotch. Time for your equality to kick in, so sack up and deal with it like the rest of us do.

Unless you're really only know how to communicate online through threats of sexual and physical violence you're failing at making a point.

For one, here's her twitter filled with her garbage with date stamps.

She avoided the Nero radio interview that would have otherwise given her an open platform to blast gamers because the host has the balls to ask her questions that would have destroyed her arguments. She sticks to CNN as a sounding board because they don't dare ask her the hard questions.

You know she's not going to sleep with you, even if you White Knight for her.

I don't think anyone is white knighting her to get laid, did you see her on MSNBC's report? Um...

I think we have a social cess pool if people are saying, "Well, everyone gets death threats on the internet." Really, think about that. Death threats are so normal that its no big deal. Craziness. It says more about the circles these "gamers" run in than being a through-line of the internet.

It's okay that she gets death threats, because other people get them while playing Payday 2? That should tell you something about the games you play, and pretty much proves her point that video games have these little pockets of male dominated circle jerks going on.

Nah, I'm not failing to make a point. The point is, the anonymity of the internet has created an environment that can be sour with no regard to who you are or what you are. Women are simply shocked that they're treated equally as poor on the internet as the men are because they're used to being put onto a pedestal in real life.

http://www.amazon.com/Self-Made-Man-...dp/0143038702#

Norah Vincent went undercover for a year, living as a man. She had to stop because she couldn't handle how men treat each other. Typical male crap that makes men the strong-spirited sex that we are. It's one of the most honest writing I've ever read about the differences between the sexes. She did it very respectfully of each sex and, more importantly, her point of view is more legit because she actually stepped into the shoes to live the life.

If you are shocked that there are bad people in the world, then you two have been living under a rock. Surprise, some people are jerks.

Not all people.

Not even most people.

SOME people.

Unfortunately, as always, the loudest ones seem to get the most attention and the rest of us get painted with the same brush whether it's true or not.

Like Nebor said, if you've played games with hostile communities like StarCraft and League of Legends, then this is no surprise to you.

If you're living in your own little bubble and have no idea that internet anonymity brings out the worst in some people, well then maybe the internet isn't for you.

Yep. If you're in the public eye and you fire shots first, don't be surprised when the group you've shot at fires back.

She jumped onto the man-hating bandwagon, now she's taking heat and she doesn't know how to handle it other than scream louder that all men are evil.
