Yet another example of supreme stupidity. Even the Chinese laugh at him

Anyone surprised by anything this doofus says?
Art of the deal!

Dumbass couldn't find his big ass with both of his tiny hands.

Before I saw the video I was like, "wtf is an mou?" I've never heard of the term so I was willing to give trump a pass...then I watched the video. Omg. Trumps trade representative then casually explains what an mou is to the reporter who asked the question about mou's even though she clearly understood what they were but lighthizer was trying to help trump out by pretending to talk to the reporter. What does trump do? He doubles down, even after being told that it's a legally binding agreement. The fact that trump still didn't get it after lighthizer even goes so far as to tell everyone, "we aren't going to use that term ann more, from now on, we'll use the term trade agreement ", shows you just how fucking stupid this president is.

I've heard of politicians representing their voters but I've never seen a politician who actually was a represention of their voters! If trump started calling himself Texashiker, I wouldn't even bat an eye.

An MOU is NOT a contract (the President is right). It's an agreement to do something. When I first read about that this week I was worried. This is something the Chinese tried to lock us into and I'm glad the President, in a roundabout way, said it was a no-go. Glad they're going with something far more meaningful. The cherry on top? Having the Chinese envoy sit there and watch his MOU turn into a binding contract and he agreeing to it on the spot. These Chinese are full of tricks. Even the contracts they sign won't mean anything if it isn't enforced. Our trade envoy was bamboozled by the Chinese. He needs to be on top of his game.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) is a nonbinding agreement between two or more parties outlining the terms and details of an understanding, including each parties' requirements and responsibilities. An MOU is often the first stage in the formation of a formal contract.

Trump was right, Lightizer was wrong. You may have TDS but look up the definition of something before trying to discuss something you clearly don't understand.

I can't remember, are you the "The Storm Is Coming" guy?

Hmm...do I take the word of a TDS (trump dick sucker) or should I do my own research on a topic I've already said I wasn't familiar with?

So worst case scenario, trump is a dumb ass who doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about or the best case scenario is that trump's main guy negotiating a trade deal with China doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. Boy do I have egg on my face! /eye roll

Just curious though, is an mou viewed differently in China than in the US?

If you're not familiar with it then why didn't you do your research before deciding to post? It would've saved you the embarrassment of reflexively saying the President is stupid. As for what an MOU is in China is, how the fuck would I know that? Do I look Chinese? Fact is, these little Chinese mofos are tricky and shouldn't be trusted. When I read about the MOU earlier this week I wondered how stupid our reps are to agree to something nonbinding, something literally meaningless. This is the Communist Chinese we're talking about. They don't respect any laws or rules or rights. They can just agree to something and ignore it. What we need is an agreement that is enforceable. If they try one of their tricks, we grab their little balls and squeeze until they return to the correct path. They've ignored the WTO agreement they signed on to. They've ignored the various agreements from the many summits we've had. They act in bad faith when it comes to North Korea. They've ignored international court rulings wrt UNCLOS. Either we come to something that moves them to a fairer trading system or we should just walk away, cut them off from our economy.

So lame. Lighthizer made a career of international trade agreements-

The notion that he was bamboozled by the Chinese is absurd. Your defense of Trump is equally so. He bamboozles even himself.

They can be binding or none binding depending on the intent of the parties involved:
Whether a document constitutes a binding contract depends only on the presence or absence of well-defined legal elements in the text proper of the document (the so-called "four corners"). The required elements are: offer and acceptance, consideration, and the intention to be legally bound (animus contrahendi).

You should try actually reading peoples posts before you comment on them, it would really help to not make you look like an idiot.
I'll help you and dumb down my original post for you because I don't think you'll figure it out on your own.
My issue wasn't with trump not knowing what an MOU was, my issue was him doubling down after being corrected and making a bigger fool of himself.

As for the rest of your diarrhea of a post, the irony is amazing. You tell me to research something you barely understand yourself and can't answer a basic question because you can't be bothered to read more than a few paragraphs on a subject. You don't need to be Chinese to understand the question and to be able answer it but you do need to be the slightest bit competent in a subject you deride others for, who openly admit not knowing about something.

Here is something you can read up on:

And another page is written in the anals (pun intended) of Trump's illustrious legacy as our most intelligent, most honest and above all most presidential president we've ever had "besides Lincoln, or maybe not".

Long live Trump and those folks who adore and worship him and long may they all regret it.

Super smart very powerful businessman president always knows best. LOL.

What a fucking joke he is.

Dari is amazingly correct and wrong at the same time. Both the US and China are sovereigns so there is really no such animal as a binding contract between them. An agreement, MOU, or treaty with unilateral exit language is the best one can expect between sovereigns.

The point is that an MOU as being used is binding as anything can be. Trump says it isn't, arguing with people who have an almost infinitely better understanding than he has. He decides that he defines what reality is and runs with it while being completely wrong. The frustration in the room was palpable and if Trump had been in a class that Lighthizer taught he'd be kicked out as a hopeless failure. This is the President who doesn't need to know everything but must be able to grasp simple concepts and he hasn't the least ability to do so. No wonder he's come in dead last regarding intelligence.

Who's more foolish? The fool, or the fools following him?

They are foolish no doubt, but it's the hatred and fear of the damn socialist commie liberals and those terrorists and rapists from the middle east and south of the border that got drilled into them by their party leaders that's making them behave that way. For some, they hardly needed any convincing to begin with as they were just brought up that way.

As others have said MOUs can be legally binding and the US trade rep sure seemed to think this one was. To know for sure would require knowing what was in the agreement and if you think for even a second that Trump has read it you’re stupider than he is.

So yeah, before you jump all over someone for being wrong you should probably understand the topic better. I hope you’re adult enough to admit it.

Just one of the many ways that running a business is different than running a country. Only idiots think it takes the same skill set. Although... it's much more about the person Trump is than skill sets. Trump is an idiot who thinks he's not. He continues to make a fool of himself, and he has no intent to ever try and get better. I did love the chuckle from the envoy and the quick response of the trade chief.

Vice Premier Liu was probably laughing at how right President Xi was. No doubt the conversation afterward went this way:

Xi: So, you didn't give away too much dealing with Trump, right?

Liu: Comrade President, you warned me, but I have to tell you, I did not believe anyone could be that stupid, that ill-informed, that much of an embarrassment to his country.

Xi: Right. Putin let me in on that secret. All you have to do is compliment him, and Trump will give you the keys to the nuclear codes briefcase.

Liu: I mean, he's supposed to be a great businessman, with international holdings. How can he not know any of this? That's why I didn't believe you. I really thought you were just setting me up for one of those prank TV shows and fake news that the Americans love.

Xi: No. There's no way I could make a better prank than Putin did putting Trump in the White House. But that's okay. Soon, we'll have Guam and Hawaii, too. You know Trump doesn't think islands are part of his country.

Supposedly Trump called Lighthizer to task over this and I'll bet not a single fvck was given. Trump doesn't want this guy pissed at him.
