Al Masri (the Egyptian in arabic) is yet another in a long line of Al Qaeda leaders that have been killed. Even though 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudi, the other four were the leaders and they were all Egyptian. Even though bin Laden is the head of Al Qaeda, the real influential power lies with his right-hand man, the Egyptian al-Zawahiri. The muslim brotherhood, the spiritual founder of Al Qaeda, Hamas, and other vile terror organizations, is Egyptian. I'm starting to think that Egypt is more of a serious threat than Saudi Arabia when it comes to international terror. The Saudis may fund these operations but the Egyptians do everything else, from evangelism to logistics and producing the very best leaders. But, like SA, we stay silent because they're an ally.

Iraqi al-Qaeda leaders 'killed'
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki says an intelligence team has killed the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri.

Mr Maliki said Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, believed to lead al-Qaeda's local affiliate, the Islamic State of Iraq, had also been killed.

There is no confirmation of the reports and no comment from the US military.

Previous official reports that both militants had been captured have turned out to be untrue.

Speaking on national television, Mr Maliki said both men had been killed in Salaheddin province by Iraqi agents who had US assistance.

Iraqi TV showed pictures of both men before and allegedly after their deaths.

Abu Ayyub al-Masri is also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir.

He is believed to have helped Abu Musab al-Zarqawi form the first al-Qaeda cell in Baghdad. Zarqawi was killed in June 2006.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq has been blamed for some of the bloodiest insurgent attacks in the country.

Cool, it's usually the number two guy they get.

Sadly it does not quite square with, "Even though bin Laden is the head of Al Qaeda, the real influential power lies with his right-hand man, the Egyptian al-Zawahiri. "

And we should define those two as Al-Quida #1 and #2. We have caught or killed plenty of Al-Quida #3's, #4's, #5's, ..............................#1185's, but we have almost no clues about #1 & #2, all loses are fairly swiftly replaced by someone more competent or less competent, so all we do is temporarily slow Al-Quida down. But I think if we could get al-Zawahiri, there might be a chance to really hurt and maybe dismantled Al-Quida.
