Hammond couple sues police after family dog shot

Lilly the pitbull survived being shot in the face June 9th outside Norma Maldonado and Dario Lemus’ home.

Their federal lawsuit alleges the officer fired three times when the dog was next to a 7-year-old child.

The officer claims the dog was loose and lunged at him. The family denies it.

Hammond’s mayor and police chief have previously said the shooting was justified.

Yep pretty much this right here. It is almost a weekly occurrence now. I read at least one news report a week on a cop shooting someones pet. Usually the pet is either in the house, chained or pinned up in a private backyard or something to that extent. There was a cat that an officer shot recently and a neighbor and some of their friends are filing a suit against the officer.

One guy had a show dog who he used to sire and got paid huge stud fees for, and made his living showing the dog, and an officer shot and killed his show dog. That guy sued the crap out of the department and won a huge settlement. Unfortunately most people don't make a living off their dogs and they are just basic pets not worthy of anything more than a piece of furniture to some cops.
