Ok, so I was having problems with my new P4 system. I thought it was the PS so I used my old k7 mobo with the new power supply to see if the system booted up. It didn't, once I pressed the power switch the fans would spin for a second then stop, this was the same problem plagueing my new P4 system, so I concluded there was probably something wrong with the PS.

Ok, so I go back to switching everything back to my other case. Hook everything up, etc. When I turn on the power the fans, cpu, and hd start up and spin like normal but no video signal and my system no longer posts, it doesn't beep or anything. It is also worthy to note that the ethernet card when its plugged in, the lights light up. So in essence, everything powers up but no post and video signal. I tried powering up with just the vidcard, ram and cpu and still nothing. I also let the system run for a few minutes and see if it booted up to the OS and then pinged its respective IP, but it didn't work. So it seems that even if there is no video signal the system isn't booting up to the OS. Any suggestions/help are highly appreciated. Thanks!

It's always been my experience that if the video card wasn't seated properly or was defective, the system wouldn't boot, just give a certain beep that meant "no video".

If nobody answers with a good idea what it is, you can try to find out yourself. If you look on your mobo, there is a little window that shows different codes as the system boots up. Try to see what code it stops on and then look it up in your mobo manual. Might help you out, might not.

Post codes would be useful, but unfortunantly the machine doesn't make any beeps, it just runs.

Everything was seated right, and by everything I mean the video card. Its just weird that the mobo won't even post, but it'll run and load everything. I tried resetting the cmos and even removed the battery. Another weird thing is that the HD leds don't light up, but the hd does infact bootup, how far, not far enough to load the OS. Any other ideas?

I've seen 2 things cause the problem you describe, the most common being something, be it cpu, ram, vid card, ect... not being seated correctly, or your system being grounded. I'd suggest taking everything out of it's case (if it's in one) and reassemble it w/ the motherboard on a static bag and see how that works, next step would be to test all the parts in another PC (if you don't have another P4 PC avi. and just the athlon system you can still test all the parts but the cpu/mb) and see what works... Hope this helps.... :)

Could be that the power supply just took a dump on you and the 3 and 5 volt legs are bad, had that happen on a friends Sys. or if the old PS took a dump might have surged the Mb. also if the Mb is being shorted on the case platter that could cause the problem. Goodluck:)
