Gee . . . So what do you do when you're actually threatened with bodily harm? Kill the guy and his extended family, and piss on his ancestors graves?

Arkaign--You're among the best contributors here in The Garage, so you'd better keep this thread updated. :)

If I have a reason to leave chances are I am in fear of harm. Should that person try to detain me you can rest assured I will lay them out. I have already in the past much to my wife's dismay.

If someone rear-ends you and your wife, whom appears to be drunk/high, and whom seems to be attempting to flee the scene, what do you do?

You got it :)

As of now, haven't heard a peep from the police, perhaps they're backed up, and insurance has been really slow as well to get back to us.

I don't care how tough anyone is on the internet. Hit one of my nice cars, and you are going nowhere. If I have to pull my car into the street in front of you, and stand in the way behind you, so be it. Worse thing that can happen is police show up and tell me to move it, and by then, objective accomplished. Lose your cool and initiate violence before then because you can't flee an accident you caused, it will just make matters worse for you. Not only do you unnecessarily endanger yourself, you also place the favor of the courts and law on my side. "Officer I tried to approach to see if he was alright and get insurance information and I saw him reaching for a gun..." or "he tried to run me over." Who's going to tell your side of the story?

Man up and take care of shit you cause, and we have no problem. Accidents happen, it's not a big deal, just take care of it. Your plasma TV can just wait until you pay to have the car fixed that you wrecked.

I'm not a mean person, certainly not even the kind that fakes wearing a neck brace to get money. I just want my car fixed; $100 or $5,000, it's not my mistake to pay for.

It's not like you'll be able to give your side of the story should you chose that scenario.

It's hilarious when someone is trying to run after the fuel inertia switch has tripped.

Actually this is sort of moot because we all know you never drive any of your 'nice' cars they just sit in a garage as you keep pouring more money in to race parts that never see their tach go beyond 4k.

But in the end the courts would definitely side with whomever you were detaining via force.

You simply cannot do that. A car accident is looked on as a property issue no matter how bad ass you think your ride is...not a matter of life and death. You'd have to have some extremely good circumstances for not making your life a legal hell for physically holding (and god forbid you pull a handgun to do so) someone that ran into you.

No matter what 'emotional' views people have here, the legal system is very clear on it. I would be in the right to shoot and kill if I had fear for my life for anyone I struck with my vehicle that attempted to physically detain me when I knew they were the ones that caused the accident and I felt I was being endangered staying alone with them.

Just a reminder since you are obviously clueless about this thread, we are talking about the person who causes the accident trying to run.

I wouldn't have to physically detain you and there wouldn't be any force or contact involved unless you became a threat, which is completely secondary to the accident. You just wouldn't be able to move your car without endangering someone. So you can sit there and wait for the police to show up and tell me to move while they write your citation and get your personal info for me. Or you can get out and walk towards me and attempt to move me out of the path of the vehicle yourself or attempt to run me over, which puts YOU in the wrong starting a physical confrontation. Understand how that works yet? I recommend sitting in the car and waiting for police if you can't move your car safely; you are powerless to lay a hand on anyone or settle a dispute about where someone can or cannot stand on public property.

Witnesses will report that the person who got hit was walking around taking pictures of the accident scene and writing down plate numbers and on the phone with 911 when the person who hit the other car got out with a temper threatening to "lay them out" because he was in the way. This will corroborate with the 911 recording with me saying "shit hes going to kill me" and dropping the phone. It will be self defense from road rage all because you didn't want to pay $1500 for a bumper or have your insurance rates go up for being a shitty driver.

No way out for you, deal with it.
