Yet another boot up problem: [Edit]-Problem with initializing Promise Ultra66 controller card?

OK guys, because I just downloaded BootLog Analyzer, I run it in my machines and find the reasons behind the slow boot up time. But I can't explain them so I need all your help.

In one of my super 7 machines ( win98, installed and uninstalled numerous programs and hardwares), the "Initing ultra.mpd" takes 14 seconds to finish.

Anyone know what it is?

Edit: Suppose it is for Promise Ultra66 card, how to speed it up?

Sounds like the Windows miniport driver for a Promise Ultra 33/66 PCI IDE controller. 14 seconds to initialize does seem like a long time, though I don't have a good frame of reference. It's very likely that if you've removed the hardware but for some reason Windows is still looking for it, it would cause the slow bootup. If that's the case, there should be an entry in the Add/Remove Programs applet that would fix the problem.

Best regards,
Floyd

Actually I have a Promise Ultra66 card installed. The Primary master is a Quantum Bigfoot harddisk, the Secondary master is a Acer IDE CD-RW. The boot drive is onboard Primary Master.

I don't have anything to refer to, but doesn't it seem odd that an ata66 controller would lag bootup?

I have used the Promise 66 card and teh FastTrak 66 card. I have never had those types of problems. I suggest you remove the drivers, using Add/Remove programs and try reloading them. Probably could go into DOS on a reboot and manual remove the drivers. See what happens.

I installed 2 Ultra 66 cards in different machines(one is VIA super 7, the other is TX chipset) and the Asus A7V with onboard Promise ATA100 controller. All of them display same delay (usually 30 seconds or above). The TX chipset and A7V is clean install with win98se, with latest drivers, DirectX 7.0a, and NO other software installed . It's weired.

DocCon:
could you please try running this bootlog analyser and tell me how long the mpd driver needs to initialise in your machine:

Will do -- my machine at work does not have a promise card -- my home machine does. Will test it and let you know tommorrow.
