There are tons of these online. Apparently most people who try to uninstall or update ATI drivers gets this or similar bluescreen.
What's crazy is that I haven't seen a bluescreen anywhere in probably close to 3 or 4 years.

I even tried Atiman Uninstaller 7.0.2 for a completely fresh try. No good.

Tried drivers from AMD website, no good. Tried drivers from Sapphire website, no good.

Bluescreens whenever I try to do anything, like folding or community grid. Haven't tried any games yet.
As long as I'm not doing anything intensive, I don't get a crash. But one of the crashes I was opening like 20 tabs in Chrome with 3000px+ backgrounds (which I suppose is somewhat graphics intensive).

All bluescreens are identical error.

First bluescreen was not long after I uninstalled the driver from the CD by updating to the latest version through the automatic update, and trying out some folding.

Here is the latest data from the WhoCrashed application:

Anyway, I get my SSD tomorrow and will be reinstalling Windows on that anyway, so let's see if the problem persists on a clean install on different hard drive (the SSD).

I dont know what is causing it, But it just happened to me three times in a row before the PC would start. Weird, then I come to Anand, and what do you know. A thread about the very problem I just experienced several times. :/

And I did just recently update the AMD 6870 drivers to 12.10's.

I have never seen this blue screen in my life, other than when I clicked on this thread. I'd wager this is user error :colbert:

I think I've gotten this a couple times, mainly on my laptop, when updating or uninstalling drivers. I'd wager it's not human error when all I'm trying to do is use AMD's own damn Catalyst Install Manager and telling it to install or uninstall drivers.

I have never once seen this error when installing, removing or updating drivers on ATI/AMD cards and I build/repair PCs for a living. I am not saying their drivers never cause a problem, but this BSOD type of stuff is more often not driver related.

When a user is getting these kind of errors no matter what driver version they use it points to their Windows, rather than the actual driver in question.

If your new Windows install doesn't fix it I would be very surprised. If it keeps happening after a re-install then it is a hardware issue.

Try a differenct PCI-Express slot before re-installing Windows to see if it still happens.

Looks like a bad PSU or Xfire related issue.
I've updated to every single WHQL Cat release since the release of the 5870 (on launch day).. never gotten a blue screen. Also tried many betas, same thing.

Presumably you have reset the mobo/CPU to stock frequencies?
The "default Genie overclock" looks to be fairly aggressive and could be responsible for system instability.

No, this is obviously a software issue (CCC problem). All the rest of my components are perfect. Like I said in the OP, I get my SSD today and hopefully when I do the clean install on the new drive it will fix the problem.

I considered that that might be the culprit too.
But OC Genie doesn't do anything with the graphics card, so it couldn't be the problem because the bluescreen says clearly it is ATI file causing the problem and it isn't a hardware issue.

Clean install drivers and try again.

I seen about 1000 of them with first google search (thousands of pictures of the blue screen from other ppl who had same problem)

I tried cleaning drivers already. Completely uninstalled, then reinstalled. Tried it a couple times. Didn't change anything.

No, not OC. Haven't even touched it yet. Stock settings on default latest CCC drivers.

No, I haven't even run any 3D programs. Once it crashed while browsing the internet, no other programs open, just browser windows. Exact same error as all other times.

Temp never goes above 40 C

You are making assumptions, just because the CCC is causing issues does not make it the CCC. You have stated yourself the problem occurs no mater what driver version you use. In my experience that makes it a hardware or Windows issue.

Try the card in a new PCI-Express slot temporarily. If the problem still occurs then it rules out a dodgy PCI-Express slot. If it works OK then either the original slot is faulty or the MB drivers are the culprit.

If that test doesn't help see what happens when you do a clean install on your new SSD. If the problem goes away then it was your windows. If it still happens then you have a faulty video card, you should RMA it.

Like I said, if all versions of drivers give the same problem it isn't the drivers. You are running into a corrupted Windows or a hardware issue (MB, GPU, PSU).

For the record, stating "most people are having this issue with their AMD cards" is pure sensationalism on your part. Finding thousands of hits on Google proves nothing. I can search for "BMW cars suck" in google and it will come up with millions of hits. It doesn't make it true that the majority think this way though.

We're about to find out very shortly. I am downloading the most recent non-beta drivers from the Sapphire website. I am currently now on a fresh install of windows on my new SSD.

No problems yet; however haven't tried anything; let's see what happens when I try to run Heaven [benchmark program].

Sapphire website? Any specific reason why you use their driver set? Curious, since I own a Sapphire HD 7970 but I always get my drivers directly from AMD.com.

I tried that but it was same issue from AMD site; that's why I tried downloading the specific drivers directly from Sapphire website for my specific cards hoping it would help... it didn't...

About to do the benchmarks so I'll let you know if the clean install on the new SSD fixed the issue.

GL!

I recall having a crash issue when I first got my SSD, but since the screen just turned blue I didn't know what was causing it. Adjusting the C-states on my MoBo and an update from OCZ for the firmware - one of those fixed it. I haven't had a crash in months.

*knocks on wood.

Hey, which drivers were you using? I just saw Cata 12.11 Beta 11 got posted yesterday - was it those?

I recall using the 12.11 Beta 8 (or was it 10? - which ever one had the BLOP2 improvements.)

Either way, curious, prior I was using 12.11 Beta 4 for the WoW improvements and those were great. When I swapped over to Beta 8 (or 10, or whatever) I noticed it broke Custom Profiles (you can create/save but you couldn't see that you did either in the panel, I know they saved/applied because the games I was playing at the time had the different options.)

I'll test run Beta 11 tonight to see if they fixed the Profile Panel issue I have, but if it's the version that BSOD you I might wait.

Not sure I'm digging the release a new driver every week approach, haha. It seems something or other breaks with each other review - as if they had two teams or the left hand isn't talking to the right hand.

Grumble grumble.

You don't realize how everything works together. Just because it says CCC doesn't mean that's the root cause.

Long story short just buy Nvidia and then post about your Geforce bluescreens.

Oh boy, I got this error before with my x800 and Cat drivers.

You have to uninstall drivers from safe mode. Then boot up and install latest WHQL. gl

This has resolved similar issues for me in the past.

12.11 beta newest.

Been using it all day on fresh install with 12.10 stable CCC; however haven't yet run heaven or anything intensive, so I am about to find out soon whether it's fixed or not with the fresh install.
