Yes, We Should Let Motorcycles Ride Between Cars

I see this daily on the LIE. I'm surprised there's not more accidents from cars changing lanes and hitting these stupid ass people who think they own the road.

I wouldn't have an issue with it if motorcyclists were actually responsible about it... but it feels like 9 times out of 10 that I see lane splitting happening, the motorcyclists is roaring down the split lane at like 100 mph between stand-still traffic, just begging to become a splat on the road if someone ahead of them decides to change lanes without, not only checking their blindspot, but also looking far down the road to see if there's a random motorcycle riding down the lines.

Not only checking their blindspot, but putting their blinker on and merging into the next lane like you're supposed to do. In stop-and-go traffic around the big exits, I always see cars cutting the wheel to get out from behind that construction vehicle or whatever else might be in front of them.. and they're doing it very fast and without a blinker.

lol, this is hilarious "as long as traffic is moving at 50 mph or less and the motorcyclist doesn’t outrun traffic by more than 15 mph."

so they basically can go 65 mph down the middle of the highway with cars going 50 mph?

50 mph is fast. this should only apply when traffic is at a near standstill (even then i don't support this). hell, a lot of highways in PA are only 55 mph. seems like tons of accidents waiting to happen imo.

Fine with it but the motorcyclist should be presumed at fault for any accident that happens while they're doing it. Better hope you don't get doored while lane splitting on a crowded highway.

You guys have no idea. This is TOTALLY normal in every other country.... And I'll be honest, it pisses me off. I hope they all get hit and runover.

It's not about splitting the lanes during traffic time when everyone is at a stand-still. I completely understand, everyone in a car has to sit there for traffic, but you can make it through. It's not about that.

It's about dangerous moves that (when it's already hard to catch motorcyclists) doing so during live travel. In Brazil, they don't have automated toll-ways. So they get SUPER congested with tons of back-up. So what do the motorcyclists do? They cut to the front of the line every time. It's as if you have a motorcycle dictates that you can cut to the front of the line with some right of passage. Same goes for every single traffic stop light. And plenty do it constantly during traffic movement.

If you want more people to die with all the grannies and stupid people we have driving, by all means. But we already have plenty of motorcycle deaths. If you want some more... have at it.

I say go for it. We need more organ donors anyway.
Nice.
I agree.

I think it is extremely unsafe. But hey, it's their health at stake, not the car they hit.
If they hit a car changing lanes, it will be a glancing blow to the car or a rear end hit, which shouldn't hurt the car driver much.

This is on par the stupidity of Toronto wanting to let cyclists run stop signs provided the "intersection is clear". It's a government conspiracy to solve the organ donor crisis. :D

I am not a huge fan of it. Only time i did it was when traffic was under 20mph.

I think we should allow people to do it, after they sign a waiver they can't sue anyone for shifting lanes or opening their car door.

o_O Anyone opens a car door on me and they better hope they kill me because I'm dragging their ass out the car and beating the shit out of them if they try that shit with me.

Fact is, most people are fairly accommodating and will actually move over to give passing motorcyclists more room. I do this when I'm in the cage. Most motorcyclists who split do it in a prudent manner. I've never seen someone lane splitting through stopped traffic at 100mph like some have said. Not once. You'd have to be insane or have a death wish to do that.

Moving any faster than other traffic at all seems insane to me. All it takes is one person to change lanes without signalling and you're going to be eating your meals through a straw.
