Just gave ClairVW (Saco, Maine) a call, turns out they are fine with chipping and what not and won't void my CPO. That just made my day! I was planning on waiting until the CPO expired so I got my moneys worth, but if it still remains intact!!! APR Here I COME!! Man this is going to accelerate my whole mod timetable I had set for myself!

I apologize, this is prob-- definitely in the wrong forum, but I just wanted to share!!

yay 😀

Better get something in writing, cause I'd bet the manufacturer will not buy you a new engine if you ruin this one.

CPO - Certified Pre Owned

ElFenix - Oh I understand that, but some places will just void on detection of such a mod. I have kept it well maintained and few people have reported problems with the exact same upgrade. I figure its pretty safe.

Some places break the law. They can't void the warranty, they can only deny warranty repairs IF they can prove the mod caused the defect.

How can that graph be accurate? Shouldn't HP and torque be equal at 5252 RPM, not 5500 RPM?

Oh yeah, make sure you keep up with the oil changes. DON'T SKIMP ON THE OIL CHANGES.

Mugs - Good eyes, I never noticed. The graph is more of a PR graph not actual, at least thats what I think. No way a real dyno is that smooth. Either way it will be better than stock, which is what I'm looking for.

shortspanishguy - I didn't ask about any other mods. All I plan to do is put on a better suspension, some new shoes and upgrade the ECU. There are other mods, but I don't planning on doing them, so I didn't ask.

Fenixgoon - Yea!! You should do it too 😉 😉. Cmon everyones doing it 😛

I realized the graph was just a PR graph (which is why I was pointing out the inaccuracy - I wouldn't trust a manufacturer's claims on just about anything unless it is easy to test on your own). But I'm sure you've researched this chip and have seen actual dyno results on VW forums and what have you, so you know what to expect. 🙂

Just keep up with those oil changes. 😉

which is when you pull out your handy-dandy copy of the magnusson-moss warranty act

Well, the dealer claiming your aftermarket stereo caused the radiator to leak is one thing, but in this case virtually anything that goes wrong in the entire powertrain can be blaimed on the mod and there wouldn't be much room to argue it.

Stripped gear in the transmission? Caused by increased power output. Warranty denied.
Blown head gasket? Caused by increased boost pressure. Ditto for leaking gaskets. Warranty denied.
Rough idle? Caused by the aftermarket tune. Warranty denied.
Damaged engine internals? LOL! Warranty denied.
Overheating? Increased boost = increased heat. Warranty denied.
Catalytic convertor failure. Caused by aftermarket tune. Warranty denied.
Turbocharger failure? You get the picture. Warranty denied.

In this case the MM warranty act won't help you a bit. You would have to take them to court and you are likely to lose.

Of course I'm not saying they can argue with something unrelated such as brakes, windshield wipers, etc.

BTW, I'm not against modding. My 06 F-150 has been reprogrammed but it gets flashed back to the stock tune whenever it goes to the dealership even if it has nothing to do with the powertrain.

Nice. Any way they'd give that to you in writing? 😉

mods wont void your warranty unless they can prove that mod was to blame for that specific part.

My friend has a modded Z and the warranty replaced his bose speakers.
Hes blown an engine and a bunch of other stuff on that car. Things that warranty would obviously not cover cause he was adding mods to those parts. Speakers were stock so they replaced easily.

I PLAN on chipping my 1.8t 2000 Jetta sometime soon...with 86k miles, I dont think it would be smart though...dont want it to break.
