Yes Minister / Yes Prime Minister

the problem with british "humour" is that %99 of the time it is just not funny. someone says something awkward or pulls their pants down, and then look someone else looks at them in a quizzical bemused way. no wonder most british programmes only run for 1 or 2 seasons at the most, it is due to the fundamental flaw in british humor.

You haven't watched enough English TV programs. Try watching Yes Minister.

Even for a Belarussian that speaks english, I find British humor really funny and enjoyable. ^_^

Another day another HAL thread about freakin British stuff... 🙄

We used to watch them when we were kids back in India... pretty funny stuff. Not sure if it airs in US...

Speaking as someone neither British nor American, I would have to say that there are examples of both British and American shows which are funny. However, on the whole, and more consistently, I would have to rate British sitcoms as being the more entertaining.

I agree, that being said there are some phenomenal America comedies, particularly at the moment. Overall I agree that british comedies are on the whole better.

You need canned laughter or a cue to tell you to laugh! Let's be honest, Ricky Gervais won awards for The Office because it was so funny, but the Americans had to re-make so that it was more obvious when you were supposed to laugh so that the idiotic morons would get it!

Shut up and sit down. The British have an excellent sense of humor, always have. Sure it can be particularly dry, but it's also rather cerebral, unlike you. 🙂

The British version of the office is great...American version sucked this is true.

I'm with you on this one. I've seen every episode, and loved it.

I could see how many people might not like it though, since dry political humor is probably not for everyone.

That's true, but I'm one of those people that loves this sort of humour.

Fawlty Towers

/thread

Agreed, it's awesome.

Obvious troll is obvious.

Everyone knows there has not been a good (much less amazing) English show since Monty Python.

True, other than:

Fawlty Towers
Blackadder
The Office
The IT Crowd
Top Gear
Doctor Who
I'm Alan Partridge
The Inbetweeners
Peep Show
Only Fools and Horses
Yes Minister
Yes Prime Minister
Luther
Sherlock
The Mighty Boosh
Misfits
Spooks

and a few hundred others.

Other than those, you're right.

Doctor Who isn't really a comedy.
