Ok, imagine this. You have a TV that reacts to light. if it detects a certian frequency of light, it makes the TV changes channels. Right?

now, let's do a little excercise. get a flashlight. stand in front of your TV. turn off the lights. You're our infared sensor. take the flashlight, turn it on, hold it at arm's length and point it at your face. Do you notice a light? Good. that means it's time for you to change channels.

Now, turn the flashlight around and point it at the wall on the other side of the room. Do you notice a light? if so, change channels.
