YES! FINALLY! got a test drive today with the 2010 GT-500 :)

lol I've been harassing Ford for a long time now for a test drive of the GT-500. This has been going on for months of emailing etc, even trying to get an 09. I get a call today and they want me to come in and test drive a 2010 GT-500! Sweet lol.

I shall report back later, if you see a high speed police chase on the news from Toronto then chances are it might be me! 😛

Update:

The dealer just called me back a second ago. Said that his manager is not allowing him to test drive the car. Imagine that lol. Sets up a time, takes down my info, and now cancells, how unprofessional!

Prior to all this, I sent in a complaint email to Ford Canada stating that I have emailed several dealers wanting a test drive and have not heard any response. Today I got a call from a representative and she connected me with this dealership and setup the test drive. We scheduled a time, my information was taken down etc.

Time for another complaint letter 🙂

Ford must be doing crazy good economy wise if they don't care about people test driving their cars or not. I have the Mercedes dealer calling me every week wanting me to come in and test drive the C 63 AMG.

that car is so slow and not worth it.

right

you think it's fast?

just kidding though, it isn't slow and my next car was going to be an LS3 Vette, but now the new GT500 has me seriously thinking....

It's faster than my 2001 Lexus ES 300. Do you drive a faster car? The Vette is always going to be top dog over the Mustang, no doubt about that. I don't think people buy the GT-500 because they want the best track car our there, I think they buy it because they want something unique and fun, and if they want to launch it a few times from a red light they can.

Anyways I'm still shocked at the dealership lol. It's a "yes come, wait, no, don't come" situation 🙂

that's pretty lame man. why is buying a car such a pain in the ass?

I asked the salesman that. I'm like, so how exactly do you want to sell this car? What is your masterplan? I go to Land Rover and they give me a car that's worth 100 k to test drive alone without the salesman even there, and here we are, months later, with no progress. The difficulty of test driving a GT-500 is on par with test driving a Ferrari, although I might have better luck with that the way things are going 😉

I think it comes down to customer service or lack of from non-premium brands. Luxury dealers will bend over backwards to accommodate a customer or potential customer. Just visit MB, BMW, Lexus, Porsche, etc and then visit Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc. But nothing is free.

Truth.

The service of my MBenz and my parents' Lexus dealer was order of magnitude better than the local Ford variety for my parents' lease car. When my mom went for an oil change, lexus gave the car back with 3 red roses inside... needless to say, big points for them.

Too bad the local Audi dealer (Ann Arbor, MI.. guess which one) is crap.

Edit:
I should add the Ford dealer wouldn't even give out a loaner after we had a Taurus transmission dropped the second time in one month (car had 5K miles on it) to replace a speed sensor.

They are real picky about test driving and mileage on the SVT vehicles because the customers who eventually buy them are.

I remember you couldn't get a test drive in a '03 Cobra unless you had the cash and were ready to actually buy it immediately after the test drive after putting those miles on it.

The cars sell themselves, so they don't bend over backwards to try and sell them or please anybody. A normal Mustang GT on the other hand you could walk in without notice and get a test drive even if you said you weren't buying.

yes, it has to do with actual volume of car. it is not mass car like Camry, Taurus or Accord where customer is ok with 100miles on new car and where lot of dealers have demo versions.

Are you going to buy the car? If not, don't test drive it, no reason to waste all these dealers times in the tough economy, they have enough problems.

I'm not surprised really. It's a limited production car and I doubt Ford is having difficulty selling them. If you are serious about buying one I imagine they'd let you test drive it first but they're going to make sure that you are serious about buying it.

Honestly, if I were buying a car like that I wouldn't want one with 100 miles on it that some yahoo had been joy riding in.

This makes sense. They still shouldn't have given the OP the run-around. If they don't want to give him a test drive, then they shouldn't have scheduled one.

i wonder how this runs compared to my LS3 C6.

I'm not a mustang fan, but it looks good and the back seat is a huge plus.

I'm sure it starts up and runs just fine.

lol.

Yea I can understand how they don't want to give limit production cars test drives, and I as an owner would want a brand new one. The part I'm pissed off about is making the commitment and then backing out.

Ah well, it was too good to be true 🙁

Anyone here with a GT-500 willing to give me a ride? 😉

how about you man the fuck up and buy the car instead of pissing everyone's time away trying to get a free ride in one.

the gt500 would stay close to the LS3, but probably fall 1-2 cars behind from 0-100.

Are you serious about buying one or just test-driving nice cars? Is it possible they ran a credit check on you and were disappointed with the results?

To be honest no I can't afford one right now, already bought myself a nice toy this year (V-Rod), but who knows in a year? A GT-500 or a Vette is something I've always wanted to own for some time now.

Naw no credit check, they just simply don't do test drives on that car. I'm curious to see if the US is the same thing or is this just in Canada. Someone try it out 🙂
