Can a PC boot in less than five seconds and load a game, without installing it, within another five seconds?
Can a PC run games continuously for several days without crashing or ever causing a conflict?

Keep dreaming :)

Well, on top of the things I've mentioned, there's also the fact that games for consoles can be fully optimized for one particular system, and there's almost no overhead from the OS or other programs. For this reasons, games can indeed look far better than PC-games.

BTW, the GC has also a keyboard available. Hopefully some RTS and RPG games will be developed with keyboard support :)

Knock on wood, this box would run forever if I did nothing but play games on it and never tweak the hardware. Once you hit that right combination of hardware and drivers, rebooting/crashes become a very rare occurance.

On a similarly related note, I was checking out the screenshots for the ps2 version of max payne. They look baaaadd. I don't know if its the way gamespot takes screen shots or if thats the way the game looks (I'm betting on the former), but the PC version certainly looks above and beyond the ps2 version.

A battery pack is available, capable of providing you with gaming fun for about 3 hours :)

Yet a PC is far more volatile than the average console (except perhaps the XBox). A virus, a corrupted driver etc. it's all far more likely to occur on a PC than with a console.

Screenshots should never be the motivation to buy or not buy a game.

Maybe but they don't :) Check back in 6 months and we'll see how Xbox/ ps2/gC look compared to a highend PC. Bang for buck of course consoles are better btu if you have the money you can get better. I like my PS2 but I won't pretend it can stand side by side the latest PC.

BTW that is DAMN cool and not even very expensive.

or... I could pick up a 5.6" LCD for $108 on ebay, and hook that and the PS2 up to my car AND have the ability to watch DVD's.

can the gamecube do that? ;)

That's just for the screen. Now find one for your GC.

It's for the screen AND GC :)

[edit]: I was not totally correct. A seperate battery pack is available for the GC ($49.95)

They can't at all, and never will be able to. The XBox can, but you have to shell out $30 to make it work.

actually they can :)
that unit works on the xbox, ps2, dreamcast, and ps1 :p
if you ever see the box it shows you all the systems it works on. which is, well, all of them. just doesnt fit as nice and neat. i guess you could get the black one they make if you wanted it to match.
