Damn this thing is sweet.

About $380 CDN here in Hong Kong.

pillage2001, I know you're gonna read this one buddy. Sorry, couldn't pick one up for you. It would put me WAAAAY over my $750 limit...and I'm already over...and gonna try and fool customs.

Anyways, I don't think you guys need to hear my "Minidisc is better than MP3 players" lecture again...and there's already a bunch of threads about that.

HK stuff is hella cheap guys...especially music players.

I like the iPod too...but the lack of remote is unforgivable.

...much in the same what MP3 player enthusiasts think real-time recording is unforgivable.

NetMD is not available on the Hong Kong streets yet. It will have the street price of around $350 US or $525 CDN...probably.

Not really worth it to me since I don't mind the real time. A USB cable that does auto track marking takes care of that since I usually leave it recording anyways if it's off my comp.

Not worth the extra $150 if you ask me since the N1 only has one more feature than the R909 which is NetMD.

I might've been tempted to buy it anyways but I leave today for home in Vancouver so forget it.

If you really want one, the best place to get imports over the net is probably micmic.com.hk

Good Lord! For that kind of money you could hire a band to follow you around playing your favorite tunes live! :Q

Whoops...my bad. I said that wrong. I mean the N1 only has one more feature than the R909...which is NetMD.

yup, the ipod is currently only for the mac. this might sound crazy, but i actually was considering buying a mac ibook.

mediafour has a software called xplay (still in development) that will work with the ipod on a PC with firewire port though Windows Media Player. waiting for them to complete that software...

ipod is schweet!

why $380 canadian, if you're in Hong Kong....why not Hong Kong dollars.....btw, exchange rate still around $7-HK to $1-US?

Yes...Type-R...I was a little  about that at first. I thought it was just a marketing gimmic.

Yes, that's the main reason i don't like the iPod. It would be SOOOOO easy to add a remote and make the package so much better.

Why $380 CDN? Because I'm Canadian Chinese. I paid just under $2k HKD and the guy threw in a bunch of disc with it.

The exchange rate is closer to 8:1 (about 7.8x) although if you go to the bank, they'll give you something like 7.6.

I will do a thread about my experience here...and a TRUE "How to shop in HK" guide. The one I found on the net is worthless and outdated (regarding MDs.)

<< NET MD is availabe here in Taiwan.

$300 ;)
>>

USD? Not bad. That's about $2400 HKD. I'm betting that's the ones shipping from Japan.

You realize that you have to go to Japan or return it to the store and have them go to Japan to get the waranty.

Some people that sell these things are bastards and will tell you to screw off if you come back asking for waranty. To prevent this from happening...NEVER, EVER pay in cash. ALWAYS use a Visa/MC/Amex. If they say they have a fee...they don't. It's only because they don't want to take your CC because then there's a undisputable record.

If they have a CC fee...either go to another store or bargin until they don't charge the fee anymore. Lots of people here want your business and there's always a chance they'll give it to you cheaper if you say "Okay then...I'll go check somewhere else." after a asking for a long explanation, pricing and bargining that pricing.

I've always made it a habit to never buy any Sony (or any other electronics) in N. America.

As soon as it his N. America, it's outdated. No exceptions. Japan already has more advanced stuff than Hong Kong...and then all the stuff that doesn't get sold in HK is shipped to the US and Canada for production.

I swear it's true. That $500 MZR-900 was released like a year ago in Japan and is cheap as hell over here.

Cool..when my dad went to HK for some work a few years ago he got me the Sony MZ-R91 which at the time was one of the smallest recorder (still is pretty damn small) for about $250CDN. At a chinese store in Toronto, the smae one went for $600CDN!!!!

Yep. Those stores are run by guys who went to HK and stuffed their suitcase with units. Since they had to pay duties on the MDs, that's why it's 600.

See? The latest technologies over here are already outdated by Asia standards. My friends and I often joke that if you offered a MZR-37 to a bum in Japan, they would refuse and tell you to stop making fun of them.

...geez..that sounds funnier in Cantonese.

If you think your notebook is small...take a look at the Sharp Mebius, Fujitsu Lifebook and Sony SRX7 and SRX3.

...no, not on the American site...look at the co.jp ones.
