damn thing wouldn't turn off, wouldn't charge etc. Flashed it to a newer firmware, and now it is acting crazy, freezing up on me and when I try to charge it it starts flashing the backlight and the apple logo shows up on half of the screen...

and it isn't even a year old yet:|
 
If its less than a year old, then it should still be covered under warranty. Send it in to apple to be fixed or replaced. I did it with mine. its really easy and no cost to you.

Its not as much of a hassle as you think. When you fill the form out online they send you a box and all you have to do is pack it up and drop it off at the nearest DHL drop box.

I was really surprised and happy with eas of the service.

nah..they are telling me that I have to pay for shipping or something...

I've exhcanged it before due to screen issues.
 
where do you live? I have warranty on mine and they will replace my nano for free no matter what happens to it. I can take it back to CC for ya and pretend its mine 😛 hopefully yours is a black 2Gb too 😉
