The good people of Texas and Florida can handle all that. The people of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama can get hurricaned and oil spilled into oblivion. Though it'd be quicker and cleaner if they just slid off into the gulf and sunk beneath the murky oil.

Why is this news? It isn't like BP is doing any better in the 'stopping the oil gusher' dept. Yes, prayer is deeply engrained in our culture down here. As long as it isn't a substitute for real, substantial action to stop the gusher, then I have no problem with it. The resolution does not support any specific religion either, so the outrage surrounding the resolution is all sound and fury, signifying nothing.
