Yeah so what it's a repost. Honestly, how can the highest budget deficit in 20 years be a good idea?

Bush's half-trillion figure is not of interest for being the highest ever figure, since GDP generally grows, but his deficit will be the highest percentage wise in two decades? Is that so...and damn. Greenspan today was saying that social security could be a decent way to cut some of the fat. I hope you're contributing to those 401k. Geeze, and I thought that the republicans historically wailed on the dems for big government?

Now, to lighten the mood: Bush To Cut Deficit From Federal Budget

Social Security takes a HUGE CHUNK out of our taxes, and it'll just get worse as we go on. Interest is huge as well, I think I remember reading in my Economics book, its somewhere around 1/3 of our budget, just the interest alone.

It really amazes me how people don't care about this. Some of my ignorant friends were trying to explain to me how it doesn't matter, without offering any actual facts or any details about the situation at all. I tried, in vain, to explain the effects it will have for the future, but they're too closed-minded to important stuff to care. People really piss me off sometimes. :|

now that is the biggest myth in politics. the idea that Republicans spend less money than the democrats.

never happened never will.

Dems want to spend money on the poor, repubs wanna spend money on the military, guess who ends up spending more money.

I'm increasingly getting used to - though no less upset by - the general apathy and stupidity of the humans I have to share the planet with, so your experiences really are no surprise. Bush wants to half the deficit within 5 years? Hell, he might as well just do what the onion article (first post) said. Both are fantasies.

Geezer like me remember Reagan and Bush Sr. pushing the same tax-cut-and-spend scam that Bush Jr now says will "grow the economy," back then it was "trickle down economics" where big cuts for the rich would "trickle down" to the poor.

It failed miserably then, and Bush Sr. had to break his campaign pledge of "no new taxes" to fix the broken economy.

I think I'm just getting used to being in Political Science classes with people who are educated on stuff like this and actually care. Then I go eat with my dumbass friends and I feel like I'm teaching a bunch of sugar-addled children. :disgust:

Not only is this a repost, but it's in the wrong fvcking forum! :p

I wouldn't mind seeing social security take a hike, and let us invest that money how we see fit. Less government is the best government.

this topic sounds like politics or news or something

Damnit Skoorb! Why do you have to expose us to politics? You know we don't like to think about it. Post threads about egg drop soup and blond girls.
