Yea, SO I am pretty sure, my PSU is dying...

This is an Antec SP2.0 450, I bought a little over a year ago. And it seems like it is leaking a cap. All I hear is the caps screaming in 2 tones. This is bugging me, So I shut it off and hit the switch. Than I turned just the switch on and it is heard. I thought it was a fan, I guess not. So anyway, Do you think I should keeo using my Rig until it dies or would not be a bad idea?

They seem to be running at 10v Rails on my 12 volts...

I like Enermax, and PC P&C but PC P&C is a little too much, I would like at least 450w and up with good rails and braided cables, They donn't have to be modular. With an extra long PCI-E power connector....

Thanks

I braid my own cables. Enhance ENP-5140GH or ENP-5150GH @ ewiz.com are awesome forthe money. For the system in your sig, the 400W will do nicely.

If your Antec is still in warranty or if leaking cap, RMA it. When it comes back, sell it on eBay. In the meanwhile, order an Enhance ENP-5140GH or -5150GH from eWiz via Froogle (save a buck or so that way). I know of no better PSUs for the money. The Egg was selling the Seasonic S12 330W unit for $49. +sh. That's a great PSU too and will handle most systems (pretty sure even yours) with no problem - usually not that cheap though. Back to $59. now.

Naw man, a 330watt would be pushing it in my system, I would be pretty much using every bit of wattage I have.

You'd be surprised if you could measure your system's actual usage - I doubt it would often go over 250 true Watts. Seasonics are generally rated at their continuous capabilities, with a sizeable headoom available. The one in the Arctic Cooling Silentium cases is rated at 350W continuous/450W max. Either way, the Ehhance PSUs are excellent too. Not heard of much until recently as they stuck to OEM (Silverstone PSUs etc.). Before Alienware was bought up by Dell they used Enhance PSUs almost exclusively. I use an older Enhance (ENS series) in my system (mfr. date 2002) and it works great. When it dies I'll get one of those 5140GH units unless I stumble across a good used Zippy/Emacs first. See the 5140 review on http://www.PSUInquisitor.com.

If you run a 7800GT overclocked with AMD 64 overclocked on Antec SP450 which would be giving like 25A total, then what more do you expect.

Anyway, do a RMA

Ok, I bought a BFG 650Watt PSU.. I know I did not need something that beefy but I got it for $95 so I thought it was a good deal...

It just does not have all the molex cable wrapped up and it got better reviews on newegg on it than only of the seasonics.

Another victim of the Fuhjyyu bulging cap issue. Sad to see so many get recommended a while back. BFGs PSUs are crap, IIRC jonnyguru gave it a 4/10 or something similar. That happens in almost every PSU thread :|

Not a good idea to make a decision based on newegg reviews only!
I hope my suggestion did not make you go for a 650W unit.
I was only pointing out a minor issue in my opinion only with the wires on some Seasonics.

You should not get a very high-power PSU. There is an efficiency curve. This is an example. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article28-page4.html. You always want to be as close as possible to the peak of that curve.

Does anyone know how far back this Fuhjyyu cap problem with the Antec Smartpowers goes? Is it somewhat recent? I have two SP 350s that came with Antec cases 2 1/2 years ago that are running fine. I had a third one from maybe 5 years ago that ran well for years, too.

Btw, the two SP 350s that came with the cases were bought 3 months apart in 2004. Interestingly, to me at least, is that though they have the same model # the first one shows 16a at 12V+ and the second one shows 21a on the label on the PSU. I guess they are always changing the specs.

🙁

You just got a PSU likely just as bad as your previous Antec 🙁

Your PSU should have a three year warrenty. DO NOT open it up, that will kill the warrenty.

Contact Antec for an RMA or PM member AntecCSR or both. 😀

The BFG also has a lifetime warrinty. I bought the BFG in a store, so if it goes or has problems in 30 days than I guess I could return it.

My DDM is broken and I don't know how relieble Everest is for rail readings but they kinda suck.

I am getting a 1.5v on a 3.3v. and a 10v AGAIN on a 12v...

This could very well be my outlet causing this.. but I dunno..

Ok, I just called Antec and I am waiting for an RMA #

Kinda funny, I mention the Fuhjyyu cap problem and he was like... That was fixed years ago.... I was like.. umm I guess I got a bad one than... lol

Software readings for voltages are crap. Let's put it this way, no way the system could be running with only 1.5v on the 3.3v rail and 10v on the 12v rail 😉

I would not doubt jonny's review http://www.jonnyguru.com/PSU/BFG650W/
For all his reviews http://www.jonnyguru.com/

CWT builds the TP & SP to Antec's spec & price point. These units still use Fuhjyyu caps
NOTHING has changed in this area. You have been lied too me thinks 😉

The NeoHE and Trio maybe better units than the TP or SP but why bother when there are
better units than the NeoHEs out there for le$$ money.
