Ive had a 102F tempertature for the past 5-6 hours now... I was FREEZING my ass off, so i put a crapload of covers on me and turned my bed up to 100F.

Well about 20 minutes ago i started sweating profusely finally and DAMN did it feel good...

What exactally happens when your fever breaks?

Your body is heating itself up to kill your infection. It also kills some of your own cells. You get a chill so you make yourself even hotter by adding blankets or whatever.

Interesting... So when my fever breaks and i begin to sweat, it dosent need to heat myself anymore?

I think it's something like this...

When you are sick, your body temp goes up because for some reason your body is better at fighting the sickness when it's warmer... something about energy or something I am not really sure... but when it "breaks" and you have a cold sweat and the like, it means that your body isn't hot and "fighting" anymore, it's already winning, so there is no reason to be so warm.

I am no doctor, but I took a bit of bio.

my non medical a$$ assumes that your body threw back it's attackers.

A fever is a conditioned response by the body to kill germs. Most pathogens that atack the body can survive only under very specific conditions. The body makes itself hostile to the attackers to destroy them. You should really only take fever reducing drugs when it gets out of hand or you are unable to get the rest you need while the battle takes its course

in fact a lot of flu symptoms are not side effects of diseases, but are in fact the bodies evolved responses to them. coughing, sneezing, temperatures. If I remember my textbook right, even morning sickness has a specific purpose tp keep you healthy

Since my spinal cord injury, I will just start shivering my ass off violently (think flu) out of the blue. As a matter of fact, I am now. Every muscle in my upper body aches from being so tense. Especially my neck, which it makes stiff. All this time, my temp is normal. :(
