Ye olde Voodoo1

Ok, Ive had this old Voodoo 1 for a long time. Its a PCI card, that needs another card to work off. You plug the monitor into the voodoo, then use a little 10" long cable and take it from the voodoo to the normal video card. i dont know how many people will know what im talking about, but I want to know WTF is up with that.. I use that card for a loong time and never understood it. I just want to know..

Early generation Voodoo cards (voodoo 1 and 2) were 3D only cards, ie: they did not display a 2D image.

You needed another card that was capable of running a 2D image so you could use things like Windows (2D environment)

hope thats answered your question.

Yeah I got the Voodoo 2 version of your card. Its really not to bad. Get a really good 2d card (gX400) and install with the voodoo1 and let the good "old" times roll. Plus get new drivers at www.voodoofiles.com.

KGB... if you really want to Rock n Roll get another Voodoo 2 card and run it in SLI mode... just for kicks... you'll need a free pci slot

and don't forget the ever elusive sli cable 😛

Ah, the good ol' days,

Diamond Stealth, Monster 3D II and a pentium 200.....

never could get monster trucks to run right for my kid.....

That system and M$ 'almost work' games started this entire hobby

/me tips his hat

Yah, way back then we had to walk to school 5 miles every day (with no shoes)in the snow because they didn't have cars.

Lol, it was only '96 if you can beleive it. It's amazing to think how fast things are changing now. Moore's law is really in high-gear.

Nostalgia... What fond memories.
I still have a 12mb v2 around somewhere. I wonder if it would improve the performance of an I810/Celeron?

Oh...
Remember what those Voodoo's cost? I realize that today's top shelf Nvidia's are more, but 3D is not the novelty it was 5 years ago, so, while today's prices are not justified, at least they are understandable... or maybe I am just used to it.

I paid $219 for my first Voodoo product. Never have I been so awe struck since that day!

I've owned...

Voodoo 1 in 4mb
Voodoo 1 in 24 mb [!]

Voodoo 2 SLI

Quantum Obsidian 24X [ Still use it! Check my sys specs...]

Voodoo Velocity 100 [Still have 2 of these!]

Voodoo 3 2000 PCI

Voodoo 3 3000 [Still have 2!]

Voodoo 4 4500 [Still own one.]

Voodoo 5 5500 [ Best 2D bar none and 2X FSAA that is still unequaled!]

Long live 3DFX!

Even if only in my mind.....😎

BTW, it was the Tseng Labs ET6000 chipset that gave the Voodoo 1 the best boost for the buck!
