I recently separated from my wife and left her 99% of "our" belongings. That said, I pulled out an old HP Pavilion ze4115 and it fired right up. I worked out some kinks, but man is it slow. I know the AMD Anthlon XP 1500+ is pretty bad, so my question is, would a similar AMD model, say the Anthlon XP 2300 or 2800 be an option to upgrade to? Would I in turn have to upgrade memory or other components? Would it be worth it? I've got time, just not much extra money at the moment. Hell, if selling this and buying parts to build my own is wiser I can do that. But, my background is in electronics circa late 70's early 80's RADAR systems. Some things don't change, but this would be my first attempt at replacing a CPU or building a PC from 'scratch'. Plus, something tells me I might not get much for an outdated laptop. Thanks in advance for any advice.
PS- Besides the speed, which is still better than nothing, the laptop is fine. Keys, ports, plugs and cd/dvd drive are tight. It sounds good, minimal noise. Doesn't get too hot....For any musicians or those familiar, it handles FL Studio 6 XXL well until too many sounds are going at once and then clip clip clip. Which may be settings that need adjustment.
