Blasts rocked five churches in four Baghdad neighborhoods early today in a spurt of violence at the start of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. Elsewhere an Iraqi government official was assassinated, a U.S. soldier was killed, a hospital worker died in a mortar blast and a police officer was killed in a grenade attack.

Just as it is Bush's fault the troops have died in Iraq. We should blame Bush for all the deaths that have happened on American soil when people drive to work and die on the way to work. How dare Bush make our economy so bad that we have to go to work. I mean there must be 1000's upon 1000's of deaths during Bush's time in office because people have to go to work and died on the way there. Damn you Bush every time someone dies it's your fault.

So I was talking to this BBC reporter the other day who had been to Iraq plenty times. His opinion is that most soldiers who arent "brainwashed" (his own words) otherwise, believe they are part of a colonial occupation.

He also believes that the US will have to leave Iraq as a military retreat, because the Iraqis are fierce nationalists and would not tolerate US occupation. Therefore this insurgency which he says is just in the "2nd gear".

I agreed with his viewpoints, especially since he said that before the invasion, Saddam had been the problem. After his removal, there is STILL a massive insurgency, and people like Al-Sadr, or Zarqawi, who were nobodies suddenly emerge to take the place of Saddam as the problem to a free Iraq.

That's pretty harsh, and even though I kinda agree it should be mentioned that letting them do that also drags the rest of us along for the ride. Adventures like this should require near-absolute approval for this reason. It seems terrorists don't really give a damn about political divisions amongst Americans, they just see American targets.

I have to agree with this view.

I also want to add that, as an ex-soldier, I know for a fact that these young kids are fully brainwashed. This would obviouslly have an effect on how they preceive their C&amp;C.

The ones who are least likely to be like that are mostly reservists who don't go through the constant brainwashing that regular forces do.

Now I'm not saying that brainwashing these young kids is bad. There's a method to that madness. It saves their lives because it allows them to be more detatched and be able to act under increadible stress but all I'm saying is that it will effect how they see authority. Especially authority at the very top.

I have 3 buddies currently in Iraq, and all of them are professional, intelligent guys who - while resenting being in Iraq rather than Afghanistan - are doing their jobs and keeping more or less quiet about it. One informs me that several other Marines in his unit 'act like brownshirts sometimes' (his words). I'm really kinda proud of him - he's half Iranian and has said before 'if Bush had to pick anyplace, Iran should have been it.'


What branch were you in Aelius? Just curious...
