Yay! The neighbor started on installing a privacy fence in his backyard today!

Ever since buying and moving into my first house last September, the neighbor to our left has never really seemed to be that socialable. Any attempts on my behalf to give him nods when we're both in the backyard or be nice to his loud children while he completely ignores me has gone in vain. It's not that big of a deal, but I just don't care for him. I've considered putting up a privacy fence sometime in the near future so I wouldn't have to put up with the stuff that annoy me.

This morning, I heard some minor beating and banging going on. This afternoon, as I'm headed out to get something to eat, I notice he has 4x4 every 8 feet or so, all around the perimeter of his backyard. In his driveway is a ton of wood, ready and willing for a nice, tall fence. Yay!!

The benefits are five-fold:
- I now do not have to even consider spending money to put up my own fence.
- I don't have to see him now everytime I walk outside, as he always seems to be outside in the backyard.
- I don't have to put up with his little piece of Shitzu running up to the current chainlink fence and barking it's head off because I want to walk on my own property.
- I don't have to put up with his not-so-shy children who, for some reason, think I am a master of conversation.
- Now when I have guests over and am entertaining in the backyard, I don't have to see his eye-sore of a backyard.

It's a good day. I think I'll drink tonight to cap it off :D.

Yeah, my friend is doing that with her house. She's waiting for the neighbors to put up fences. Not a bad idea.

Make sure hit puts the boards on your side of the fence. So your looking at the good side of the fence. In some places it is a code requirement.

No doubt.

If I'm paying for the fence, I'm gonna look at the nice side.

It is a code requirement in most places I know of. You can put up a fence but if it has a "Good" side and a "bad" side, the good side has to face out. Our fence has the vertical pickets going through the middle of the cross pieces so it's the same from both sides.

My guess would be that having part of a backyard looking at the back framework of a privacy fence might detract from the overall value of the house.

Building code, or HOA code?

I won't live anywhere with such an intrusive HOA.

Building code.

Also, it would be much easier to install it with the "good" side facing towards the neighbor.

All three sides of our backyard have the neighbors fences(three different styles of wood fence) unfinished side facing us.

Building code. Each location is different. I just had a privacy fence installed. No code requirments here.

Here is link to a fence code from first link in google.
