Athlon 64 3000
MSI K8T
1 gb Crucial PC3200
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

Smooth install so far, I just have to get some more software up, get sound working, and tidy up the cables. I did have a near-panic moment when I booted up with my HD from my old rig. I had motherboard monitor installed, I guess it didn't know what to do with the new chip on my mobo because it popped up an alarm saying that the cpu temp was 180 degrees F!!! The speaker was in defcon 1 mode so I pulled the plug real quick. Fortunately it was just misreading the temp, the board's diagnostic only showed 42C.

Don't suppose you would like to fire up Seti@home (or if not, then another DC project if Seti doesn't interest you) and report the Work Unit times? :) I am considering getting that setup, and would like to know how well it does :)

Nice.

I just fired up my new rig for the first time too last night.

Running stock at 37c but the CPU fan is so loud I'm probably going to get a new one.

I'd be cracking like a mofo with SETI on that baby. idle CPU time is a complete waste.

Idle CPU = cooler CPU = longer life

hehe i wonder how many ppl here actually stick with a cpu for so long that it goes bad naturally

Don't know but when I put SETI on to my 2 rigs at home, they both died within 2 weeks of each other. My work PC (P3 600) died this Monday. I wrote about it in the SETI thread but they tell me its just coincidence.

I'll stick with being safe for now. I'm not going to risk burning up a new CPU for it. I did put SETI back into my new work PC (P3 733).

$980.96, including a new Antec case and LiteOn 8x DVD burner. My uncle always buys my old systems and hands them down to his kids so I'll get probably $350 from him, decent net price I think for a new box.

sorry, after a brief flirtation with DC in my younger crazier days I'm no longer interested in that stuff ;)
