YAY! My third 360 RRoed

Oyeve

Lifer
So, I have 3 360s, one works perfect but has no HDMI so I use it at my GFs house. One has a flakey DVD drive and gets read errros. The last one had HDMI and was my main use 360, well, it RRoed this morning. The DVD drive makes a mad crazy noise and then I get two left red quadrants, unplugged it, tried to see if it would reset, now the tray doesnt open up at all. Anyway, I am planning on getting a new Arcade w/HDMI or the 60gb model. My questions are: is the 3 year warranty RRod still in place for new consoles? Also, I already have a 120gb HD for my now dead 360, should I get the 60gb anyway in hopes of getting the latest hardware?

Thanks

They still cover RRoD for 3 years, and just make certain the 12v rating is 12.1A so you know it is a Jasper. I would just get the Jasper arcade since you have a good sized HDD.

BTW, you have been installing games you play to the HDD right? No sense in making the DVD drive work any harder than it has to, being as they seem to be 1 of the top sources of failures.

Wow...good luck. RRoD/E74/etc failures are crazy x_x I can't believe MS has still been selling 360s like hot cakes throughout the whole situation.

Wait you had 2 left quads light up? That's the system overheating. unless its within a year they don't cover that.

If you don't want to go store to store looking at power supply ratings:

Arcade is most likely to be Jasper, newegg has Jaspers marked by listing the onboard memory.

Last I checked Elites were still almost all Falcons unless you get the red Resident Evil model (= Jasper) .

60 GB is luck of the draw between Falcon and Jasper.

If you are buying a new one, and you already have a hard drive you can scavange, just buy the arcade and put in the hard drive. Arcade is the most likely to be the new chipset, and is the cheapest. They will still cover the RROD issue for 3 years too. Though the thought is the jasper chipset fixes that problem.

Got the arcade, has 12.1 on the rail. System date is 3/11/09. Sweet. Now I just have to install all my games again. What a PITA. I do miss the shiny chrome on the tray tho! 🙂 Anyway, this Jasper is sooooo much quieter than my others.

That's because it's still the best platform to play the best games.
MS handles RRoD very well, I challenge you to find any other companies that will go to their extend.

Just like that joke with the Jaguar, most jaguar owners own more than one - to use when the other is at the shop!

You too, will be hard pressed to find a company that releases hardware with known issues and then hemorrhages money trying to fix it 🙂 .

Did you take the extended warranty from the store where you bought it? I ask because after paying $99+tax to fix a Zephyr last year, I took the 3yr warranty when I bought my Falcon Elite. It was $17 I think, to be certain any failure is covered. I used a 10% card, so still paid less than retail for the bundle.

I'm still on my 20gb launch model.

Got about 30 hours of use last year. Use my PS3/Wii much more.

Me too, although I used it to watch a movie last weekend, and I got the RROD. It went away, after I pulled the power, but I know it's just a matter of time.🙁

I'd feel perfectly safe buying a Jasper 360 now. The only reason I haven't yet is that I have so many unplayed PC, PS2 and PS3 games, and keep buying more. Most of them are 60-hour strategy or RPG games too.

So many games, so little time 🙁
