Erie, PA gets a lot of snow, over 7' this season. So, they need the cars cleared out of the resident parking lots so they can plow out the mounds of snow between the cars. The notice said:

"You may park in the following commuter lots: Jordan Road Lot, Erie Hall Lot, or the Science Building Lot."

Also specified:
"Please note that failing to move your car from the lot to be plowed may result in receiving a parking ticket!"

I parked in the Erie Hall Lot.
Result: Parking Violation: Restricted Area.

So, my options seem to have been:
Leave car in resident lot - get a ticket.
Or, what I did:
Move car to Erie Hall Lot, as instructed. Got a ticket.

Horray, now I get to waste time appealing it tomorrow!
Plus, I had to park my car back in the same lot, because the two lots that were cleared today are full; the other apartment resident lots are being cleared tomorrow, so I can't park there either. So I might get another ticket tomorrow too. Any bets on that? I'd say the chances are good I'll be appealing two tickets.

*sigh*

So I take it that you got a ticket for parking in Erie Hall Lot for which you didn't have a proper parking pass? You should be able to beat it if it was only a temp thing.

Is it expensive (the ticket)?

I've still got two outstanding parking tickets which are £70 a piece :(

Sounds like someone made a mistake. Do you still have a copy of the notice, or was it a posted sign in your lot? If it's still up, might want to grab a picture of it just to be safe.

And yes, if the notice said you could park in the lot, and you then got a ticket for doing what the notice said, definitely dispute.

It was e-mailed to every apartment resident. Twice. And the RA came around to hand out notices. And I called Housing to confirm that it was ok to move my car when I got the e-mail.

Exactly. All apartment and dorm residents with cars presumably received temporary passes though, given that they were all told to move their cars for plowing, or else they'd get a ticket.

"Oh, you didn't move your car from the resident lot? Ticket!
Oh, you moved your car to a commuter lot like you were told to do? Ticket!"

It is only a $15 ticket. Still, it's $15 that I shouldn't have to pay, because I did what I was told to do. I really don't think that they have much of a case here.
