Yay, just failed my first road test!

Some lessons learned . . .

1. Even though everyone else takes the side streets at 30 mph here, when taking the road test you gotta stick to 20 or auto-fail for speeding.

2. Stop signs. Here is a little story, a while ago I went with a group of people to Navajo Nation in Arizona. Everyone who had a car was saying how they all almost rear ended someone at a stop sign at least once because here in Chicago, everyone pratices rolling stops while in Navajo Nation they actuially stop at stop signs.

DESPITE the fact NOONE around here comes to a full stop, including cops*, more then 2 rolling stops automatically puts you very close to the failing category.

3. You must take turns at 10 mph. It doesn't matter if your turning onto an 6-lane street from a sidestreet (i.e. PLENTY of room to make the turn), you must make it at 10 mph.

My question is basically this, wtf is up with these road tests? To pass them you must drive in a way that you NEVER drive on a real road. The fact I think my instructor wanted a "tip" also left a sour taste in my mouth.

*On that ride back I was watching everyone elses driving like a hawk, and the three police cruisers I spotted all followed the unwritten rolling-stop rule.

EDIT : To make matters worse I lost the proof of insurance card, which means I won't be able to take the test until I come back from school. Arrugh!

when u take the driving test, u gotta be hard core everything by the book. it's just like... u gotta prove to them u know the laws/rules.

You're a fvcking n00b. Did you not even read the manuals they handed you? Of course you're going to fail a driving test if you do a rolling stop, among the other things that you failed on.

You really expected to exceed the speed limit and roll through stop signs during a DMV test and get a passing grade because everyone does it on a daily basis? Try that one on a cop after you get your license and you get stopped for 65 in a 55 zone and see how far it flies.

Think about it. Why might a driving test administrator want money? Hrmm? I'll give you a hint, when a friend of mine was on the border of failing his test, he gave the instructor a nice $50 "tip"

uh dude it's nobody else's fault that you didn't follow BASIC SIMPLE RULES of driving,

like do they put the word "STOP" on the sign because they want it to mean "STOP IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT" ? no, it means stop

Gee, I'm taking a driving test for the first time, which implies I might not have a licence. Do you think I claim to be anything except a novice? You live up to your name.

Only an idiot (like you I guess) who can't come close to passing a driving test would need to tip to pass it. The only semi-hard thing on a driving test is parallel parking, hands down. It boggles the mind that anyone could fail a driving test based on any other factors. I don't want your dumbass on the road with me if you can't follow instructions.

Your lack of common sense is astounding.

The ability to drive and the fact you don't have a license doesn't make up for the lack of all common sense. If you saw a gang banger kicking someone's ass (despite being illegal), does that mean you can do it too?

Wow, great comeback! I'm simply pointing out the fact that what you think is so idiotic is simply because you're the idiot. I'm sure your excuses of "everyone else is doing it" will hold up well with the judge when you get your first of many tickets.

You're complaining about failing based on the fact that you made a bunch of rolling stops?

Just because "everyone" does it doesn't mean it's not illegal to do it. I do it myself if it's safe to do so, but I'm not going to be surprised if I get ticketed for doing it.

How old are you? For some reason I thought you'd have your license considering all the poker you play.

23. There is no way I can justify the cost of a car right now, considering at school everything is within biking distance and it would be more then $100 a month for insurance around here, not to mention parking . . . the lot across the street charges $250/mo for a spot.

Just like the SAT tests your test-taking-skills more than your brains, getting your DL means you're tested for your knowledge of rules and road signs, even though nobody obeys any hard limit in real life.

Not really. Common sense is not so common. Maybe then need to teach it in school or something.
