I don't get the random capitalization. I'm not sure what their native language is, but what language randomly throws in capitalized words (that aren't proper/place names) into sentences?

Not all languages have upper & lower cases. Many just have a single case, and others don't use spaces, paragraphs, etc.

Fair enough, but why do they decide to randomly throw in some uppercases in the middle of a sentence? It just seems like a such a simple give away that could easily be avoided.

Bait away!

Dear Mrs. Clari Ortiz,

I received notification that I have won 1,000,000 British pounds in the YAHOO sweepstakes promotion with ticket number 883734657492-5319 with REF:YAHOO7/315116127/2. But I'm an American, so am I eligible?
If I am, could you send me the steps needed for a US citizen to claim the prize? I am very excited at the prospect and am hoping to hear from you soon.

Yours truly,
F. Mulder.

I get these types of "You have won the lottery/sweepstakes" emails every so often. I guess you don't really have to buy a ticket to win!!

I've been stringing two along on a craigslist sale. Waiting for their checks to arrive. They'll pick up the item after I've cashed the checks. :) I really, really, really hope they waste money on postage. Besides, I can't cash the checks - they're made out to one of my llamas.

Oh Nooooo! I just received word from the person I sold my stuff to that her assistant goofed:
I urgently have to bring something to your notice. I just found out that my Assistant overpaid you. The payment meant for another transaction was made out in your name and sent to you. However I want to believe I wont have a problem with you on this. Once you receive the payment, Please proceed to the bank and cash the payment, deduct your money and send back the balance to me via western union. So I can proceed with arrangement for pick-up. Once more, I hope I can fully trust you with this? I will await your response on this so my mind can be at rest.

Thankfully, I drive right by 2 separate western union offices on my way to work.

(Let's turn this into a contest, Magnus. Whoever strings along their scammer the longest wins.)

I kinda get the feeling that these scammers run their copy through an online translator and then give it to a friend who had two semesters of English taught by an Albanian pirate to polish.

I figure that the first 2 or 3 responses are cut & paste. The fun will begin when someone steals what I sold, right after their check arrives.
