Say what you want about the unions, but they did negotiate getting the opening of hunting season as a holiday so even the salaried people get the day off!

yay!

<---hopes he doesn't get an excessive number of days off in the near future.

IIRC it used to be both Friday and Monday but that was well before I worked for them.

When you factor in Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, that means I got four days of from work this month. Almost an entire work week!

Veteran's Day was on the 11th. So they get that day off plus an additional day to "honor" Veteran's Day?

No, it is observed today. They needed an excuse to have opening day of hunting off without calling opening day. ;)

Way to sacrifice long-term security for short-term gain. Hope you've saved a lot for your retirement, because this boat is running out of gravy!

I'm not planning on sticking around with them forever. I'm young and have nothing really tying me down to this area so I'm already in the process of looking up other opportunities so I don't have to deal with the possibility of showing up to work one day and my boss telling me to go home because the company doesn't have any money to pay salaries.

It looks like I'm joining the mass exodus of young people bolting from the state of Michigan, which is sad, because people don't understand how amazing of a place the great lakes state is. It gets lost in the s**t storm that surrounds the UAW and the city of Detroit in general.

they might figure that many of the hunters are going to call off anyway...so why not just make it easier and shut down for the day?

Paid holiday vs. unpaid time off

Do any non-union companies get the first day of hunting season off? Sure as heck not mine...but then, we're not asking the government for a couple billion dollar handout either.
