Less than a month ago, I started a pretty sad thread about a Japanese friend that I lost touch with who passed away! Bless her heart! She was such a nice person! It got me thinking about my older Pen Pals and I started reaching out to them too! I dug through my Uni's shitty email portal and found some old emails from 2008 (same method I used to try and get in touch with nina, too) that I'd sent out to one of my friends. So I took a chance and sat down and wrong a nice email out in Japanese to her.

I sent this email a while ago, but I just got a response back a few days ago!

(I make a lot of mistakes in my writing :< )

Basically what it says is that it's been a long time since we've spoken, and I was thinking about her. I want to chat again and I hope she can respond back!

A week or two later, I received this!

She is glad that I've been thinking of her and she has had 3 Grandchildren since we last spoke!

I was so excited to hear that she was doing well and we spoke for the first time today on Webcam over skype! I feel really good right now!

This makes me really happy because she is around the same age that Nina was and I feel really bad for not being able to chat with Nina. I am going to make it up by making sure I made more time for language exchange now that I am back into Japanese full swing again!

Yay! #feelingood.

whats up with you and old asian ladies?

I find them a lot easier to talk to.

I have many young Japanese chat buddies...I just don't enjoy talking to them THAT much. Plus, the older women are more eager to teach me Japanese than for me to teach them English (ugh). For example, quite often I am asked to re-read the passages to them from my Japanese book. They want to know what I learned and they want to help me read better.

Like, they are really excited that I want to learn and they want to help me. And actually, quite a few of them (There's only been 3) improve their English just listening to me fumbling around a news article or a reading from the book and injecting English into my reading when I'm confused about what stuff means. I have this habit of reading something in Japanese and then repeating it back in English just to make sure I know what I'm saying. So, its become easier for them to connect english words to Japanese to words on their end too.

I've found that the younger people kinda just wanna talk.

I DO know one Japanese girl who is in Peru right now as an International student, and she's awesome because she can speak Spanish, English, and Japanese. I talk to her every once and a while when she isn't busy with school.

I kind of avoid chatting with Japanese females that are around my age....it just seems to be a common theme with them to want me to teach them english. I am looking for language exchange and I want it to be both ways. I also am not interested in talking about American television or celebrities.

I also avoid chatting with Japanese males. I've had wayy too many weird experiences with that.
