I've been wanting to build a new dual CPU system for quite some time now...I've just been waiting for the hardware to catch up (wanted a dual AMD board with working USB onboard).

The time has finally come. I just placed my order for two 1800 MPs (damn AMD for SMP locking the XPs), and a Tyan Tiger MPX. I already have a case and the memory I need. I'll be tossing an Adaptec 29160 SCSI card and an Atlas 10k HD as well (I might go with an Atlas 10k III later).

I'm a little nervous about possibly chipping the processors. Haven't built a new system in ages! (my current one is a Dual PIII450 setup)

Oh well, I had to tell someone and my friends don't know what any of this stuff is. ;)

(Last I heard at least) They did not lock the 1800+ XP's, I'm running two of them right now.

The Tiger is a sweet board, although I only have the MP (at least my USB works fine).

I do envy your SCSI though, one of these days I'll probably take the plunge.

Make sure you have a good power supply, though. I just replaced my Enermax 451 with an Antec TruePower 550. So far I love this 550, it makes my Enermax seem like a roaring monster.

Both my CPUs are running at 60° and I don't care!

It's nice & quiet.

:)

Viper, sadly the latest shipment of 1800 XPs are also locked, at least they were at the only 3 places I knew to check. :(

Atrail: Nope, they haven't cut it off...yet. I intended to call them today, but forgot. I'll try to call on Monday. If they do cut my cable off I'm not going to fight it though, I'll just go with DSL.

512MB of Crucial unregistered DDR2100, which Tyan claims will work. I know I should be using registered, but I was able to get this memory for MUCH cheaper than I could have gotten registered for.

Oh yeah, I got that Cheiftec case with a 420W Channel Well power supply...that should be good enough.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about sound though, it seems like every PCI soundcard has trouble with dual processors...and I have no idea how the onboard sound is. I guess we'll see shortly. ;)

Nice!

Wish I had held out for a dualie AMD instead of the VP-6 I replaced my BP-6 with.

Oh well. At least it's still a dualie....

You're probably going to find when you open the box that they've included a USB PCI card due to a USB bug in the MPX chipset. (I haven't heard of this being resolved, but I could be wrong.)

link to review which mentions bug

Astaroth, the bug has indeed been resolved with the S2466N-4M model.

Which can finally be found on a reputable site - buy.com :)

Edit: crap, it's on backorder now. I hope that doesn't affect mine...

<< nice rig!

whatcha gonna do with it?
>>

Crack RC5 of course. ;)
I'm just going to use it as my main rig, which includes using it for:
DVDs, ripping/playing MP3s, browsing the internet, programming, chatting, and a billion other things all at the same time. :) I have 20 windows open at the moment...I mostly like dual processor systems because I'm a hardcore multitasker.

Bah! I contacted buy.com and mine is on backorder now. Anyone know where I can get a Tyan Tiger MPX S2466N-4M quickly? None of my local vendors even carry MP boards. :(

For peach of mine, you probably could get a local shop's tech to install the cpu heatsink\fans for a couple of dollars.

From the manual that tyan has online:

Supports up to 4GB* of Registered
PC2100/1600 DDR SDRAM (DIMM slots 1
and 2 may be used for up to 2GB of
Unregistered/Unbuffered memory)
