Now EDITED with revised parts.

EDIT #2

I've been planning and deciding on parts for a good month and half and I believe I now have it. So here it is:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T

RAM: Patriot 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 667 Dual Channel

GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon X1900XT 512MB OEM

Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

HSF: Thermaltake Big Typhoon CL-P0114 120mm Cooling Fan with Heatsink

PSU: APEVIA (ASPIRE) ATX-AS520W-BK ATX 520W Power Supply

As for the other parts, I already have them. The only thing that would pose a problem is my PSU. Its not old (only 1 year) and it's quoted for 400w. It came with my Thermaltake Tsunami case. This computer will be running two optical drives and two hard drives (not in a raid array)

I plan on overclocking my GPU and CPU. Maybe my RAM, I don't know. This will be my first time oc'ing but not building. So is my mobo a good choice for oc'ing? What about my ram? Should I spend some extra dinero on some XMS memory?

I'm buying all the parts through newegg but if you guys know of places where there are cheaper prices by all means tell me. Also, does the manufacturer matter when buying ATI cards? Retail vs. OEM.

I'm not interested in crossfire or SLI because I figure by the time I need to upgrade my GPU directx10 cards will be out. Also, should I upgrade to the 6400? Is it worth the extra money? How much extra performance will be gained.

And lastly, since I plan on oc'ing what are things to do to maximaze my oc?

sounds nice to me :)

edit: oh your PSU ...i think min recommended for that part is 450 w

use this PSU calculator: edit2: says 400w will work i was thinking xtx

http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp

and if do wanna upgrade..might want to get a big supply for the future of sli or crossfire needs. This bit of advice runs counter to the older and wiser people on this forum --who say buy now and don't wait :)

E6400 for the higher multiplyer.
mb should give you a nice o/c
3rd party cooler for cpu since you plan to o/c.
psu should be fine.
retail vs oem comes down to the warranty i believe, oem parts have no warranty.

ps. don't you need ddr2 800?

why buy an expensive v/c if your going to upgrade for dx 10 soon? few months i think, s1 can clarify that.

Get a quality PSU. 400W may or may not cut it depending on what the rails are actually putting out and how clean the voltage is. The X1900XT has a hefty draw, Conroe too.

I only kick them once... Just to show them who's boss.

But anywasys. Upon your suggestions I have proposed this:

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel

along with:

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

and

ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan with Heatsink

And should I buy this:

Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply

Never bought a PSU before, so I am open to suggestions as I'm sure there are better ones I just never bought one before. Also, If I want to oc my video card should I buy a new/better fan for it? Also, If I were to buy a fan controller and new/better fans would that improve my oc's? Or would that just be a waste of money and effort?

dx10 will be out in a few months? But vista won't be coming anytime soon. Atleast the last time I checked. But the reasoning for the x1800xt is I was planning on buying the 7900gt but I read some benchmarks and saw that the x1800xt was actually faster and not much more expensive. And my monitor has a native resolution of 1600x1200. I mean it won't be a waste of money right?

I have a quick question about ram. If I want to oc do I need to get drr2 800? or will ddr2 667 be fast enough? I'm looking to spend around 200 on 2 gigs of ram.

Is 400w enough? I will be running two optical drives, two hard drives, a x1900xt, and oc'ing parts. I mean my curret PSU a thermaltake 400w and its only a year old.

ps. Is a one year-old PSU actually old? Should I replace it anyways? Also check the first post for an updated listing.

Your TT PSU is rather crap, not because it's 400W, but because it's a TT PSU.

One year is not old by any means. I'd be looking at a slightly higher power rating than 400W myself, for an nvidia card yes, for an X1900XT i'd prefer 450W.

DDR2 800 means you can put the FSB up to 400 and keep the 1:1 ratio that conroe likes, 667 can only get to 333. Of course you don't have to keep 1:1, it's not a huge performance hit if you run asynchronously. Not really worth the money imo.

Not really, TT don't make any PSUs, they just rebrand crap ones. ;)

Pass, generally the cheaper it is the better value it is. I'd just find the thread for the motherboard you're thinking of buying in the motherboard forum and check to see if anyone's had compatability issues.

Ok i just checked the official thread for my ds3 board and some people said that the patriot ram i chose does in fact work with the board. So can you guys check what I have and see if there are any problems with it? Like compatability or bottlenecks? Will my system be bottlenecked by my cheaper ddr2 667 ram? Will this affect my oc'ing? And is the ds3 a good board to choose for oc'ing? Thanks guys so much for all the help, Im really getting excited to get my new system. Can't wait to play oblivion at 1600x1200.

EDIT:

I was crusing around newegg and I saw the ASUS P5B socket T mobo (not the deluxe edition). Would this mobo be better than the ds3? How good is the Ds3 in terms of oc'ing?

Can some one please confirm that the parts I listed will work? Im dying here.
