Yay Adelphia!

About 2 hours ago I noticed my Cable light was blinking, logged onto the modem page and saw it stuck on the "Ranging" part of the synch-up with their system, and it wouldn't go past it. Called in, was told there was an outtage in our area, and techs were already on location working on it. Satisfied with that response, I went to do something outside, came back in an hour later and it was working.

But I noticed that my IP address was different, and Adelphia always gives you the same IP, for months at a time. Not only different, but on a totally different network from before. So I went to Toast and checked my speeds, and I went from the old 4mbps/386kbps to a spanking new 6mbps/512kbps!

So yay, they took this opportunity to increase our bandwidth, and I'm cruising way faster than before 🙂

Cliffs:

1. Adelphia went down
2. Techs said it would be up soon
3. Came back up, with 2mbps more download bandwidth!
4. Promptly started downloading pr0n
5. .....
6. Profit!

Damn, why can't my service go out? Damn Cablevision and their reliability...after 3 years of service it's only gone out once... for like 5 minutes. And they haven't increased speed (up or down).

now wait until everybody finds out their internet's back up.

I have never had that problem, up here they have gobs of bandwidth, and not a lot of people using it all at once. Before I was capped at 4mbps, on their standard plan, their premier whatever was 6mbps for another $17 a month, they must've jumped everything by 2mbps cause I'm pulling 5-6mbps from various speed tests.
