Haven't used XP(aside from work) since Vista was released, and haven't used Windows at all(my own machines) since 2009. Vista is still my favorite Windows to date.

Just curious, why do you like vista more than 7?

I much prefer the visual presentation. I like the rounded glass Aero style as opposed to 7's flat glass. Not much of a reason tbh, but I didn't have any performance difference between the two, so that's the distinction I made.

I also have an old P4 (Dell Dimension 8200) system. Eventually it will be replaced, but not right away.

My mums PC is a Dell P4,its running quite well with a clean install of Win7 after I removed XP,got some extra very cheap ram on ebay which aways helps old PCs like hers.

That's kind of the situation I'm in... 3 XP machines.

My Dimension 5150 Pentium D desktop just got retired (new build in progress.)

My Inspiron 6000 Pentium M laptop is in semi retirement... I'm running Xubuntu on it now as a test to see how well it works. Once I'm through with it, it will be retired.

My daughter's Inspiron 1501 Athlon 64x2 laptop is still running XP, but eventually will load Xubuntu (or something close) in lieu of XP, and eventually replace it later this year or next. I just don't want to spend any money on a 6-year old laptop when I can get a new laptop fairly equipped with a new OS, more RAM and a working battery for not much more.

I just think running XP after the EOS date is asking for trouble...

I still have some uses for XP. I moved it off my HTPC but I have an old single core PC that I still have kicking around which I'll probably just lock the internet down on. It doesn't run very often. I also use it for virtual machines for absorbing windows crapware.

just noticed this story on inquirer so it looks like the nag screens are having the reverse effect because people think they are adware. lol ;)

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer...e-mistaking-microsofts-nag-screens-for-adware

"SOFTWARE HOUSE Microsoft's Windows XP nag screens are not working as it had hoped, with users mistaking the pop-ups for adware.

Earlier this month, Microsoft started displaying pop-up warnings to Windows XP users, letting them know that the operating system (OS) is nearing End of Life and advising them that they need to upgrade to a newer version of Windows.

CRN reports that rather than spurring Windows XP users to upgrade, the pop-ups have had users ringing alarm bells, with some mistaking the nag screens for adware and others worried that they have been hacked."

I also read that Microsoft sees no problem reading your email with if you have a hotmail account which makes me glad i have google mail. ;)

There are business that are paying large sums of money because they can't (for whatever reason) migrate certain PCs to windows 7 or 8

the company i work for upgraded all office and small lab comps to 7 2 years ago

all the manufacturing facalities are running XP, some stuff still runs 2k or 95 in some random cases,

custom made software for critical items that simply can not be replaced without spending far too much money

a lot of those comps are not on the internet however, just linked to a locak intranet

^maybe they were being sarcastic?

My machine came with windows xp and now has windows 8 x64 pro n.

My mom has two old pc's and I updated the core2duo HP laptop to windows 7.

The old P4 Dell desktop is getting retired since it doesn't meet minimum requirements for windows 7.

I use Vista at work and hate it with the fire of 1,000 suns.

Two systems still with XP, but I rarely use them, I went to win7 in 2010. A faithful desktop that I should do a fresh install on that is now for old PC games and I have a nine year old Dell laptop.

The laptop still works well. I replaced the dead 40gb HD awhlie back with a 120gb drive, when you could still buy IDE ones fairly easily. If that dies, I supposed I could try to fit in a sata drive with a converter... an ssd perhaps lol. XP is updated, backed up and still works fairly well. Odds are I will install LXLE or Bodhi linux on it in a dual boot and use that instead of XP.

Note to those with Pentium/Celeron M chips in XP laptops, use linux distros that still come with Non PAE requirements if you have issues with installing modern versions from the last 2 years or so. Ubuntu apparently can work but it requires and bunch of steps that I can't be bothered with.

At home I ditched XP fully as soon as 7 went retail. Now it's a full Win7 shop with my laptop running Win8.

At work, everyone is running 7. We had a few random resource boxes for things like SSO agents, conference rooms, etc still running XP because it didn't much matter but I upgraded them all to Vista boxes even if they werent internet-facing just to be safe.

I guess I have a few old test VMs kicking around still running XP simply because I have god knows how many XP keys floating around and they're insecure sandbox environments anyway.

It's time to let XP go, I honestly don't understand why so many people are *so* hellbent on keeping it.

still using xp on my main rig (not anywhere else though) as a dual boot option. I got a license for Server 2003 from school back in the day, so I may upgrade to it and use it as workstation - it will be supported until 2015.

I stopped using Windows XP in 2007 when I got a computer with Vista. I've been using Windows 7 since 2010. I'm not affected at all by Windows XP support ending. Now in 2020 when Windows 7 support ends, then we'll have a problem.

I ditched Windows XP about 2 months ago. Have two systems with Windows 7 and one laptop with Windows 8. My sister gave me a free laptop with Vista on it but its in bad shape and will only be used in cases of extreme emergency.

Anyway, XP died for me 2 months ago and I will never look back.

Personally, I wouldn't use server 2003 either.
2015 isn't THAT far away..and we're going to have to retire several servers. I definitely won't be setting up anything older than 2008 R2 from this point on.

Likewise, I have a Server 2003 box running some legacy document management software that I cant wait to get rid of. I certainly wouldn't be spinning up a brand new 2003 box unless there was a good reason.

Granted, I also wouldn't be using a server OS as a desktop OS replacement.

For the people using Windows XP i have just heard that Malwarebytes will give you lifetime support with Windows XP for only £23.74 ($39.18) per year which makes it a bargain if you ask me but i am no expert.

And although I very rarely use XP anymore on the rare occasion I'll continue to do so.
