YAXBOXT: yet another xbox thread

well i know with halo 2 out, from bungie.net, you can view which of your friends on xbox live are actually playing and what not.

my question is the following: is it possible to send a text message to your xbox live friends from a computer, without having to go on xbox live?

i am wondering because i lost my friends IM name (i deleted it from my buddy list somehow and i have no clue how) and i want to leave him a message asap on his xbox live about his IM name. i have no other way right now, aside from xbox live, to get in contact w/him cause he's at a dorm and i don't know his phone number. but if not im going to have to wait to catch him on xbox live at some point.

Just did a quick google on this and people say the v3.0 xblive has voice and text.. Here's the quote

Xbox Live v3.0 (Already out), already supports voice messages and text messages, you can send voice messages and open a voice chatroom to/for people on your friend's list through the Xbox Live Dashboard.
