Didn't seem like there was ado about the release of the 360 Elite last Sunday...

Were there mass campouts? Are they easy to find on the shelf of retail stores or did all of the stores sell out of them?

Just curious since it didn't get very much attention on Fat Wallet or Slick Deals...

This thread isn't a place to debate whether or not it is worth $180 for a HDMI and a bigger hard drive in black case without and HDDVD player...that horse has already been beaten to death...

the system isn't a deal or anything, so why would there be stuff about it on fatwallet or SD?

only thing I've heard about it is that there are already pics of it on the net w/the 3 red rings of death.

My buddy picked one up. He traded his Premium towards it and Gamestop gave him like $250 I think. He said it comes with an HDMI cable, too...unlike Sony.

HDMI cables can be had at monoprice for like $7. What a waste of a premium...

If the Elite was a Sony launch there would already be 3 "disaster" threads. It isn't a disaster, but it also isn't an event. Not many people care about extra drive space or HDMI, especially at the higher price.

People like me are waiting for the real redesign later this year, with the die-shrink 65nm CPU. It was just leaked that the GPU will also be moving from 90nm to 65nm, so together that should create a nice drop in power draw and heat generation. Hopefully in the redesign they'll see what they can do to make it more reliable as well.

I wouldn't say "just leaked". It's been known for a while now that the die-shrink would happen. It was just a matter of when. Now it is pretty much confirmed for some time this fall.

LOL yeah. He called me up when he got it to tell me about it and I asked him if he could tell the difference between his Premium at 1080i via component vs 1080P via HDMI on his 52" Aquos and there was a slight hesitation before he said "...no". I laughed at him for that.

Since the majority of 360 games are designed for 720p, I wouldn't expect any difference. That's why I haven't been at all excited over the Elite.

You're right that everyone knew both the CPU and GPU would shrink at some point, but only the CPU was known to be scheduled for 2007 until recently.

Now with the GPU also supposed to be available this year the speculation is that MS will do one combined update, instead of a CPU update in 2007 then a GPU update in 2008.

I bought a 360 premium over the week end for $250. It came with extras including the cigarette smoke smell. Anyone know how i can get rid of the smell? i didn't realize he was a smoker either. His apt. showed no signs of it (the place did not even smell like it).

Anyways, lots of people have been selling their premium for an elite. Why? I have no idea. MS even stated that this is targeted towards people who don't have a 360 yet.
