YAWT: Proper etiquette on inviting groomsmen?

My friend who is soon to be married asked me to be a groomsmen over text which I thought was 100% appropriate. You should be okay with this route as long as your groomsmen aren't women.

Yeah - OK.

Just take the mother fuckers out for some drinks and ask them to be part of the party.

I would not text. But, in a pinch, I would indeed call and talk to them about it. Let them know whats up, etc. Details on:
- they will have to spend $$$ for a suit
- be part of the bachelor party (and possibly chip in/contribute)
- standing during the ceremony and posing for many pictures

Definitely tell them about the suit thing. My buddy failed to mention this to me and we all had to drop $200 to rent a tux to match.
