The best I have found at my house are the big beams that run the length of the family room. The ceiling is about 20 feet high, and there are support beams zig-zagging up in a sort of Z pattern. There're five sets of these in total. The horizontal segments are eight feet up, and about 12" thick vertically (about 5 or 6" wide), so they're easy to jump up and grab.
They're obviously much harder to grip than a bar, though.
I've also tried doorframes (not recommended), the edge of the roof outside (asphalt shingles aren't good for this), and the 2x6 type supports under the carport over the driveway (I could feel these giving way).
Something else I've done is thrown a rope or a thick towel over one of the big family room beams, and used the ends (or made loops, with the rope) to hold onto. I've heard this recommended, but I actually found it even more difficult to grip than the beams themselves.
Anyone else do these around the home? If so, where?
