YAWT: How many times a week per muscle group for mass?

My buddy wants to "get huge" and is having moderate success, but he only works each group once or maybe twice a week, for the entire session.

Would he be better off working each group at least twice a week to build mass? Also, he doesn't look cut, just big. What would he have to change to look more cut? Diet? Reps? Weight?

Once a week should be fine, as long as you a) lift heavy and b) eat big.

As far as getting more cut, you need to rotate bulking (gaining mass) and cutting (reducing body fat). Reducing body fat is how you get that "cut" look. For that, he really needs to turn up the cardio and go on a cutting diet.

no it is not.

Less fat = more cut.

You're going to have a much harder time getting their just lifting weights than if you don't do lots of cardio and eat right. You'd be a lot better off continuing to lift heavy, do cardio, and cutting calories. Lifting light weights alone doesn't exactly get you there.
