I keep getting a sharp cramp in the upper ride part of my abs usually around 30 minutes into my jog on the treadmill at the gym. I have to slow down to a walk for about 10 minutes for it to go away, then I can resume jogging and I'm fine for the rest of my run. This happen to any of you...? It gets really annoying and I would like to find out why it keeps happening in the same spot at the same time. I tried google and it says it could be because of dehydration but I drink plenty of water during the day. Anyone else have any tips/suggestions...?

The same thing happens to me every now and then, even though I make a conscious effort to keep myself hydrated during my workout. It's definitely annoying.

Not if you want to run in a straight line...

Two liters isn't much at all.

Really...? Crap, I don't know if I can physically drink more than that in a day. If I did I'd have to install a urinal in my office or I'd be running to the can every 6 seconds.

I'm wondering why the cramp is always in the same spot though...? Could I have an ab problem or something? I never cramp up anywhere else except for that one spot....

do a lot of stretching before running, drink lots of water, and eat bananas. i hear potassium helps a lot.

I usually breathe through my mouth only...next time I'll try in the nose and out the mouth and see if that helps.

simple... stretch beforehand. stretching is often overlooked. not only does it help prevent injury, it also prevents you from getting tired quickly.

that sounds ok to me. on my backpacking trips i will usually use around 2 liters, for a full day in 65-75 degree temps.

If you are active, you need to drink about 1oz of water per every 2 lbs of weight. Lets say you are 160lbs, you need to drink 80oz of water / at least 2.5 liters. I usually drink a gallon a day at work, and then 2-3 8oz glasses after I run.

I always warm up on the treadmill for 5 minutes before I start jogging (i.e. walk, fast walk, slow jog) and I stretch out my legs and what not.

How do I stretch out my abs...or a small part of my abs for that matter...?

try drinking a bottle of gatorade at least 3 times a week--that seems to help a lot of people. Also, there is a breathing technique that my cross country coach taught us to make cramps go away. Everytime you step on the foot that is on the same side as the cramp you MUST NOT breathe in...that hardly makes sense but I hope you can figure it out.
